Cool! Hope it fixes issues. I don't really think it has anything much to do with loads across rails, but rather, it is likely just down to simple quality control. Lesser known names simply don't have the same level of quality as, for instance, a Corsair or OCZ would have.

11.5V is not so drastic that I can sit here and tell you: "Yes it will definitely be fixed." so that's why I recommended using another known-well psu to test, if possible. It definitely can be the cause though, and even momentarily dropping lower than even shown in the on-screen real-time report.

But once you do fix it, regardless of how, it will be so worth not having to think about the issue any longer and just use the machine as intended. Best of luck!

Thanks. I had thought of an OCZ unit, but am instead going to go with XFX (their PSUs are manufactured by Seasonic).

Very unlikely here...but easy enough to check. I would also visually inspect the graphics card itself for blown capacitors. They are usually very easy to spot. Brown crud coming from bottom or top of them (electrolyte) or the top will be rounded instead of perfectly flat.

The reason I mention this is because I had an NVIDIA card doing the same kind of thing to you. The caps were blown and I replaced them with low esr type (less heat, longer life, more efficient than standard), which fixed it up perfectly for years now.

I doubt your newer card will have this problem and like we were saying, the psu could likely be at fault, because what the capacitors do is regulate the voltage to the gpu. So that was my "bad link" in the power chain. Maybe yours is actually the psu but as said, can't hurt to visually inspect the card itself too.

(And still could be a driver, since I haven't seen any crash dumps at all - but if it was a driver, very likely would also be causing bsods.)

ok lets see. it fixed most of the problems but it introduced a few... I no longer have cuda 5 support but its not really a great loss since my card only supports up to 4 anyway. the driver keeps restarting but at-least it doesn't cause the computer to freeze up. yet at least. using nvidia gtx 260m
