Radeon HD 8650G + HD 8760M Dual Graphics not Working [HP]

I recently purchased an HP Envy 15z-j100 laptop, and it came today. Upon opening the laptop, I noticed the AMD Radeon Dual Graphics hardware sticker in the usual place. However, no matter what I do, I cannot enable dual graphics or even have Windows detect the HD 8670M discrete card.

As soon as I set up the computer, I updated the graphics drivers to version 14.1.

The dual graphics option does not appear in the CCC, nor does a display adapter other than the iGPU appear in the Device Manager.

Any help? I'm taking it to a local repair shop (Gadget Guru) tomorrow to see if they can open it up to check whether the discrete card is even there (hopefully without voiding the warranty).

    Full computer specs:

    • HP Envy 15z-j100
    • Windows 8.1 x64
    • 16 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
    • AMD A10-5750M (HD 8650G iGPU)
    • Supposed HD 8670M discrete card
    • 15.6" 1080p display
    • 1 TB HDD

Hi, please install the driver provided by your system manufacturer AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - HP ENVY 15z-j100 CTO Notebook PC | HP Support= to see if this solves your problem. The AMD 14.1 does not support switchable graphics.

I'm not trying to use switchable graphics; I'm trying to use dual graphics (Crossfire between the APU and GPU).

I've also tried using driver version 13.151.0.0, but it did not work. I will give it another try later today though.

14.4 supports switchable graphics, I'm running it on my ASUS laptop. AMD A10-4600M + AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M. What makes you think you can run in Crossfire? I see no mention of it on the HP site for your model?

I was under the impression that the two GPUs were able to run in Crossfire. If this is untrue, I'd still like to know why the dedicated card is not showing up in the CCC or the Device manager.

UPDATE: I mistakenly listed the discrete card as an 8750M, when in reality the card is an 8670M.

You'd need hybrid crossfire for that to work. Crossfire normally runs on two identical discrete cards in a desktop PC, if the motherboard supports crossfire. Not all do. I'm running version 14.4, my 7660G shows up under Primary adapter, my 7600M shows up under Linked adapter in the CCC.

The 8650G and 8670M are designed to run in hybrid crossfire so far as I know, but I cannot seem to enable it, or even get the 8670M to be recognized by Windows. I'm sure the option will be available once Windows detects and gets drivers for the 8670M.

For me it's one or the other but not both. Which one is running depends on what I'm doing. For example if I'm on battery its the 7660G. If my power pack is connected the 7670M is available for use. I can designate which one is used for certain things like gaming in the CCC. However I cannot use them both at the same time. The 7660G is in my APU, its a CPU and GPU in one package. There is a big difference between switchable graphics and Hybrid Crossfire. Do you have a link to anything that states your laptop supports it?
As far as drivers go I'd go to HP first and see if there is a Windows 8.1 driver there. I'm not on my laptop at the moment but I'll have a look latter on in device manager. You may only see the Video card that is actually in use listed. I'll have a look latter.

OK I'm on my laptop now here's what I found.

The last one is in CCC > Performance > Dual Graphics. I stand corrected, it is based on CrossFire technology. This is the first time I've seen any reference to Crossfire on my laptop. My apologies.

I'm pretty sure that the Dual Graphics option would be available to me if Windows were able to detect the 8670M.

Only the 8650G is listed in the Device Manager:

I'm going to install the 14.6 beta driver and see if that helps.
