Graphics driver for Radeon HD 8670M problems

    Hello there!

This is my first post so sorry if it is in the wrong section or if it is written wrong.
I have a problem with my graphics card driver (the graphics card is Radeon HD 8670M). I use the graphics card for my gaming laptop (DELL Inspiron 3537) and I have the following problems:
    - if I install the recommended driver for my laptop (from the dell site) the laptop does not wake from sleep, instead it restarts and then says "Your PC ran into a problem". I looked in the Event Viewer and looks like the driver fails to reload after sleep and restarts my laptop.
    - if I install the driver from the AMD site my PC cannot enter sleep (the screen turns off but power led remains on same as the cooler and hard drive) and I have to hard reset (hold the power button for 5 seconds and then turn on).

I also tried updating the driver (went to Windows Update and I installed the AMD Radeon HD driver for Windows 8 64 Bit) but that didn't fix so I installed all the updates. But that didn't fix either. Right now I'm using the recommended driver (the one that can enter sleep but can't wake up).

Thanks is advance and sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to describe this problem as detailed as possible.

I would recommend you to install the AMD driver. The PC doesn't go to sleep because there is a problem with the OS itself - see this thread Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep. My PC also suffers from the Sleep issue with Intel video driver. I have managed to solve the Sleep issue by running the Windows Update, System Maintenance and Power Troubleshooters but this is a temporary solution. You can also use Hibernation if these steps didn't work for you. Good luck

Ok, so I ran the AMD installer and clicked "Uninstall" and uninstalled everything and also went to device manager and uninstalled the driver from there. Restarted, and ran the installer again but this time installed everything. Then restarted and edited my power plan's advanced settings:
Wireless Adapter Settings -> Power Saving Mode -> On Battery & Plugged in: Maximum performance
Sleep -> Allow hybrid sleep -> Off both of them
Sleep -> Hibernate After -> never both
Sleep -> Allow wake timers -> Both disable
USB -> Selective Suspend -> Both enabled
Intel (R) Graphics settings -> Power Plan -> Maximum performance both
Processor -> System cooling -> Both active
    Display -> Display Brightness -> Both 90%
Multimedia -> When sharing media -> Allow computer to sleep both
Switchable graphics -> Global settings -> Maximum performance both
ATI Graphics -> ATI Powerplay -> Maximized performance both

Then a restart and sleep works! But hopefully Microsoft will fix this soon because it is annoying.
These settings and driver work only for AMD Radeon HD 8000 series. They may work for other AMD graphic cards but probably there aren't the same settings.

Also as a quick fix working for all amd graphic cards: Completely unistall drive, restart and reinstall driver, restart again and change the following settings: Control Panel -> Power Options -> Click the "Change plan settings" for the plan you use -> Change advanced power settings -> Multimedia settings -> When sharing media -> Change to "Allow computer to sleep" for both plugged and on battery. Then restart again (yes, I know, 3 restarts) and hopefully your PC should sleep.

    Hope this helped!
