Windows 8 Catalyst control Center Crash, lots of lag!

    Hi,

I have an HP Envy Dv7 with windows 8, running an Intel i7 processor with an NVIDIA graphics card. I have had this laptop for about 1 year. Recently I have had an extreme case of lag with anything that i do, whether it be turning it on, signing in, or browsing the internet. I also occasionally get a popup that tells me that my catalyst control center has stopped working and that windows will close the program until it can find a solution. I haven't run a virus scan because it would take days to get that far on the internet to run it. Should I factory reset? Most of my files are on a cloud so if it would help, I can do that. What should I do?

    Thank you in advance!

Catalyst Control Center is not used for NVidia GPU's. You need to uninstall the AMD software. NVidia uses its own software for their GPU's.

Update to Previous Thread, still need help!

I checked again, and I actually do not have NVidia, I do have and AMD GPU. Also, more information I thought I should add, when I boot up the computer and sign in and get to the desktop, there are no icons whatsoever, desktop and taskbar.

Go to AMD and download and install the latest driver. I was getting that error on my laptop and the latest driver fixed it. If your HP Envy has dual graphics you may want to try the HP recommended driver first though.

Every time I start up my browser it crashes, or it would let me do anything. Is there a way around that?

Try safe mode, Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in I'd try the "enable low resolution video" option.

I installed the newest version because my card (5770) is doing that auto-scaling thing they like to do, leaving black bars along all borders. It's easy to fix by just adjusting it in CCC, but when I open CCC there are no available settings for displays. Any idea what's up?
