1) Increase the GPU processing time by adjusting the Timeout Detection and Recovery registry value

Exit all Windows based programs.

  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then double-click regedit.exe from the results above. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Browse to and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
  3. On the Edit menu, click New, and then select the following registry value from the drop-down menu specific to your version of Windows (32 bit, or 64 bit):

For 32 bit Windows

  1. Select DWORD (32-bit) value.
  2. Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
  3. Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and click OK.

For 64 bit Windows

  1. Select QWORD (64-bit) value.
  2. Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
  3. Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and clickOK.

2) Possible issues with visual effects or background programs

  1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.
  2. Click Adjust visual effects, if you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Visual Effects tab, click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK.
Note: For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer).

3) Update graphics driver.

what are you talking about? well today i played a 4 hour hour game on Arma3 and no crash just a crash when i opened Sony vegas 11 to edit my videos

Sony Vegas 11 is not designed to work well with Windows 8. After reviewing the release notes for the current version you will find a long list of fixes included in the new version (Sony Vegas 12). Since this a paid product you should be able to upgrade for free or at a discounted price.

You can find more information here.. Sony Creative Software - Download: Vegas Pro 12

One final note, if you choose to stick with the version you have my only advice would be to change the resolution settings for the videos your creating. This issue is performance related which means it should be corrected in the newest version.

Otherwise, you might need to check for any other programs like Anti-Virus software which could be slowing down your computer. The performance impact of these types of programs will cause the same issues.

"Fixing settings" and playing with versions of software without drivers is not going to help this machine from it's funk. An owner that wises up, will.

what are you talking about?

What I'm talking about is the funny picture you posted instead of what I asked for twice and now alluding to, to make 3x.

There is a simple fix for this. I have tried all the TDRxxxx this and TDRxxx that, increase voltage on graphics card (which I really did not want to do) etc. My machine would have this problem just opening Outlook. I would either get the not responding error or the machine would just freeze up.

This has worked for me:

Open a command prompt as administrator:
Click start
In the search box type cmd
Right click or shift right click the cmd.exe command that appears in the programs list

At the command prompt type:

powercfg.exe /h off and hit enter (this command disables hibernation, if you want to enable again change off to on)

Close the window and reboot

You should not experience these annoying issues now. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 have a default power scheme that is set to "balanced". Seems that this scheme may be throttling the GPU and is so frustrating. I have read loads of post in numerous forums and none of the fixes suggested worked for me.
