Hello ,

my computer is hp envy dv6 7280sf notebook with 2 GPUs intel graphics HD 4000 and Nvidia Gefoce 630 M running windows 8 64x

after making an free upgrade online for windows 8.1 which run successfully

both gpus were ok

but after receiving a windows update with new drivers for intel graphics 4000 gpu , after install and restart , the computer freezes on blank black screen at windows startup with no mouse or anything only bacllight

so safemode was succeful but i figured that the update for windos update was the cause and graphics drivers were installed so i removed the drivers for intel graphics and itried to reboot the computer so the restart was succeful
but the intel graphics card was unistalled and no drivers were automatically installed
so i tried to download and install the drivers from hp and intel website for windows 8.1 however the install fails

automatic install from device manager failed both online and from computer and even from manula driver selection
so therefore the install failed in safe mode , and the high def audio device ( on screen audio possibly àà) failed and the device was not recongnized (no drivers installed) so i'm stuck without anydrivers for the integrated gpu

and the games are no longer able to run normally even if the nvidia card is on

i tried downloading an installing win8 drives but it failed to install also , for instance any new install of drovers seeùs to fail for me even for external usb hard drive

this is weired , i cant figure a solution

can you help

That's what we warn the masses about: Never install drivers from Windows Update. When you notice a driver update there, hide it then get it from the manufacturer's site instead.

As a start, detach any 2nd screen or tv from the system.

You likely borked things up with the approach you mention.

The most chances of success from here on out are as follows:

1) Uninstall all Intel Graphics software normally (if any still exists).

2) Navigate to C:\Windows\inf

Hunt through each and every OEM .inf file to find all Intel graphics and Intel audio (for the HDMI) files. Delete them all.

3) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and Take Ownership of all folders that are for Intel Graphics and Intel Audio (HDMI) - then delete them. Be careful not to delete any operating system inherent stuff.

Reboot then install latest driver from Intel.com.

(If you do it all well) Enjoy.

The Intel 3304 build is working great on my system. I'd wager if you download the drivers for my model from the Acer site, they will work on your system too. Here is the link, V3-771G model: Acer | Download

BTW: You can install new Nvidia drivers, just never touch the Intel driver again once you get it working.

Hello thanks MasterChief
for your quick reply

i'll give it a try and let you know ,

for the windows update unfortunately they were set to automatic update and install without prompts

but just question is this fix documented somewhere like a KB in microsoft or somewhere

i just want to point out that the problem of driver install appears to be impacting any usb hard drive i tried to plug in the machine so i guessed that could another windows update that is generating this problem in addition to the driver updated with windows update

thanks again

Nope. It's only documented above and in other threads that I showed it. It's my own custom fix that I developed. You're welcome.

Have to be careful even with the official Intel drivers on their site with these hybrid laptops. Sometimes they will work, sometimes not. Takes some special coding to interact correctly with the NVidia GPU.

thanks popeye for the info

for masterchief , it would be great to point me to the exact inf files names , i found the hdaudio.inf which is probably for the hd audio intel device but for the intel display i'm not sure which one to select the one prefixed with intel are intelprep.inf

just to make sure not to mess the other drivers

thanks

hello,

using findstr /i "intel graphics" c:\windows\inf\oem*.inf , it was easier to find the relevant files

for me it was oem45.inf for graphics oem68.inf for audio if i'm not mistaken or mission other files

i didn't found any installed intel graphics softawre in add & remove software in control panel despite being sure i had it install
so i guess i have to unistall in another way but not sure
since i' can't locate in programe files

anyway i'll give a try after restarting the computer , keep you posted if anybody is interested in this issue which i'm sure will impact a lot

hello popeye ,

the drivers from the acer website did'nt work form me either

i get a message saying that i d'ont have the minimum hardware requirements to run the install upfront

so i'm suspecting a windows problem because an update for the windows 8.1 64x is constantly failing KB2919907

i run the microsoft fix_it script for windows update it corrected a couple of problems but it failed to correct the windows update recent issues

Try disabling secure boot in bios to update that failing one, or just hold off on it until the video driver is installed well.

Just for information:

hdaudio.inf that you mentioned above.

I made no mention of that and said "Hunt through each and every OEM .inf file." HDaudio.inf is a necessary Windows operating system file.

You might fix it with elevated command prompt: sfc /scannow

Or you can replace it from another machine you might have with the same build number and architecture (64 bit.)
