    Windows 8.1 Resolution issue

    Hello,

I have a issue with Windows since I updated from 8 to 8.1. I tried googling my issue and cannot find anything about this. I have contacted MS but they won't help me without paying a fee. So I'm hoping you can help.

When I go to resolution on Windows 8.1 it shows the resolution as 1920x1080 (my screens max resolution) and it is only displaying 1268x720. When I play fullscreen games it switches to 1920x1080 but when it goes to the desktop it goes back to 1268x720.

    Suggestions?

So it shows 1920x1080 as an option but defaults to 1268x720? What makes you think its only on 1268x720?

Well for starters it's obvious difference when using 1920x1080 all the time. Also if you use the tool Gyazo and highlight your whole screen it shows next to the cursor how many pixels are in the shot. And when I turn my TV on it says it's displaying at 1268x720. Then when I play a game it says it's 1920x1080.

So what happens when you select 1920x1080 in display properties for a resolution? Games will use what you tell them and so will windows.

It acts like it's changing resolution. Screen goes black and it comes back on still with the same resolution. The guy from Microsoft support said he has run across the problem and knew how to fix it but wouldn't tell me or do it without paying.

For OEM installs you go to the original equipment manufacturer for support. Dell, HP, etc, you didn't fill in your system specs so I'm just guessing. You have to buy Retail to get phone support from Microsoft. Even then its only for a limited time. Is the TV identified by Windows correctly?
