Thunderbolt to display port monitor. GTX 765m

    Hey,

I am on a laptop with a gtx 765m. I am trying to connect a thunderbolt port to a display port monitor. My understanding is that thunderbolt is backwards compatible with display port. But, for the life of me I can not get it to work.

I am using a minidisplay port -> display port cord.

I have ended up hooking the monitor up with an hdmi cord for now. FYI the monitor is a 2560x1440 monitor if that matters.

    Thanks,

Do you know for sure the video is ported through the Thunderbolt connector?

Any chance we could get your computer model number?

I guess I don't know for sure. I just assumed it would be video on a high end gaming laptop.

Well, the owner's manual says it is supposed to port the video through the Thunderbolt port. It seems to use Fn+F8 to turn on the secondary monitor or pick between them.

The bios has a couple of options that might be involved and those would be Graphics Configurations and Intel Thunderbolt on the Advanced Options page.

Since I do not have such a setup (yet) I have to think the cable you are using is compatible.

I suppose the only other thing would be to make sure the monitor is looking for the Display Port input. Some monitors are set up to scan for inputs (which I don't like) where others might need to be set for one input in particular.

I just set up my new board, which has Thunderbolt. I enabled the Intel Thunderbolt in the bios and loaded a Thunderbolt driver.

I rebooted with a mini-display to Display Port cable and the monitor recognized it immediately.

Since you have not responded, perhaps you have your situation resolved....

Hello! Just today I started using a brand new monitor for my HP laptop. It's pretty old, I'd had it for quite a while now.
