Solved XFX 7950 (possibly) causing black screens + loud fan noise

Since yesterday, my graphics card has been starting to go to black screens and emit loud fan noises. I suspect it may be due to a recent update regarding something about WDDM 1.3 since that too was installed yesterday.

I have managed to play The Sims 3 at max settings today without the problem, but the problem kept recurring after that. Even with non-intensive activities like watching YouTube brought my desktop to a screaming halt, literally.

What do you think is causing all of this?

That's what I suspected and I think it's what's causing all this. However, I can't seem to find it under 'Installed Updates' despite it being in the update history...

Next best option is to use "system restore", if turned on, you cant revert your system back to a date in time before the the update.

Done that, and my system hasn't crashed so far watching YouTube. If Sims 3 works, then I my problem should be solved.

Hey hey....glad to hear it.

Next time you get MS updates, just make sure to go through them all carefully and check the one's you need and hide the ones you don't.
