Can't get AMD driver to install on W8.1

Can't get AMD driver to install on W8.1. Tried getting it off AMD site but neither the regular or beta driver will detect the hardware to install the display driver etc (tried running as admin already, using custom install). Driver on Dell website for the system causes the computer to hang on a black screen and flicker and needs to be system restored to before the install (ticket has been sent to dell engineers about the issue). Also tried updating from device manager and disabling the Intel graphics. The old Dell drivers from W8 did work when W8 was on. Not sure what to do at this point in W8.1 however. The only drivers that detect the hardware are the Dell ones which fail to install correctly, and Windows Update gives me nothing.

Some OEM's set custom ID strings for the integrated video components. When they do that only their custom drivers will install. That's why your stock AMD driver won't install, it can't ID the hardware. I see it a lot when a laptop has dual graphics and they are not both from the same manufacturer like Intel and AMD or NVidia. How did you update to 8.1? Why are you updating the driver?

I got the 8.1 update from windows update of course and after the update the AMD drivers had compatibility issues and had to be removed. I checked the dell website and tried the drivers I posted about above which do not work.

Did you install the updated Intel drivers first, from what I understand when I was looking at this for my Dell a while back you need to install these and then the AMD drivers (something about the cards being linked and the Intel provides the output signal)

When you got the drivers from the AMD site, did you just download the driver?
If you did, try the Auto Detect and Install option from their website, this installs both drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre, this is the one I used and works fine in 8.1 (mine is Intel HD 4000 and AMD 7600 Series)

The detect and install didnt like my OS and the custom install did show intel media stuff. I'll have to double check the intel drivers later.

EDIT: Updated Intel drivers but they didn't do anything, still can't install OEM AMD drivers.

amds driver still not stable like nvidias drivers

Such a general statement is all but useless ...

I've been using AMD drivers and have had NO stability problems. I even upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1 -- and have encountered no video problems as a result.

As the saying goes .. your mileage may vary ... so each person's experience is likely to be different.

Go use the beta that was released a couple of days ago. I think it will fix it.
