    Monitor problems

Hello. I have my monitor set to turn off automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity in Power Settings, and my computer is connected to a monitor with HDMI. The monitor has built-in speakers, which are my primary speakers.

When the monitor turns off after 30 minutes, I hear a "device disconnected" sound from the speakers, immediately folowed by a "device connected" sound. This combination of connected/disconnected sounds repeats several times, and is extremely annoying. It only started happening recently, and I don't know what's causing it.

I do want my monitor turned off after 30 minutes, but I don't want to hear these sounds!

    Hello Knocks,

Have you just recently updated your video drivers before this started?

I haven't touched the video drivers, but I replaced an HDMI cable with a new one.

Try updating them to latest version if not already to see if that may stop this for you.

It's just Intel integrated graphics 3000, so whatever came with Windows 8.1 is probably the latest. Windows says there is no update.

If you like, you could use the Intel Driver Update Utility to see if you have the latest version.

Thanks for the tip. Intel's Java utility recommended a different driver version from what was installed. I have installed it and will monitor for future issues.

    Thanks!
