Did 8.1 change what my GC is viewed as?

I have a Radeon HD 8570. Grant it im not 100% sure it was the Windows 8.1 update that did this but im pretty sure it is. I know what kind of card I have because it says it on the side of the PC...as well as in the device manager when I looked in there. Today I installed Tuneup utilities and clicked on system info. I noticed it says my card is a "Radeon R7 200 Series"...I was like well that can't be right. So I go to device manager...and sure enough that now says it too. When I looked them up online I couldnt find a whole lot of info about it....other than those cards seem to be brand new and came out days ago. Any idea why this would happen or anyone else have this happen?

Windows 8.1 didn't do it. The HD 8570 name is a rebrand from the manufacturer to make it sound better. Your real card is Radeon R7 2000 series:

AMD Radeon? R7 Series Graphics

Im partially confused. Didn't the Radeon R7 series just now come out? When I run a search about it I see articles about them releasing them days ago.

I don't know the dates for sure but I think you are splitting hairs when you try to compare "just now" with "a few days ago." Anyway, my previous post is the best I can do regarding your concern so good luck from here on.

I am thankful for any help and I didn't mean anything by saying they just came out in my reply to your post. I meant just that. I am merely concerned with the issue. Not to try and harp on it but are Radeon graphic cards so common in release that not specifying "just now" and a "few days" would have a real relevant impact to what my issue is? I figured either was enough to imply my PC that I have had for some time is claiming it has a card that to my knowledge it can't possibly have.

I bought the computer 3 months ago. Device manager as well as side of PC both said it was an AMD Radeon 8570. Noticed today after installing 8.1 both device manager and TU Utilies now consider it a Radeon R7 200 Series. To my knowledge the R7 cards came out approx 2 weeks ago if that. That is all. Am simply wondering why...

I understood that and I meant no harm in my response. However, I just can't drill down to that level because I didn't purchase one recently and I (personally) haven't been tracking the availability of same. Anyway, I thought that the FYI regarding the rebranding was going make things more clear. Anyway, it all good, so good luck with your research.

The recently released AMD Radeon R7 240 is a rebrand of the Radeon HD 8570. When you upgraded to Windows 8.1, the operating system mistook your 8570 for the R7 240 since they are both the same card. There's nothing to worry about.
