I am running 1024x768. No problem. Are you having a problem using this resolution?

1024x768 usually suggests that you're running the Microsoft Basic Display driver and not a driver specifically for your graphics card.

nice to know... but he said his card is capable of 1280x800 and that's his native resolution on his flat panel. which means his image is stretched and blurry ugly right now until he can get his resolution set to 1280x800. check the Dell site for a driver.

Just saying what you say here is not true in my case: "1024x768 usually suggests that you're running the Microsoft Basic Display driver and not a driver specifically for your graphics card." But, of course, you only say "suggests." Also, he has a laptop as do I, no flat panel unless you include flat laptop displays. He hasn't really told us what his visual problem is. I asked, but no reply.

    no, what I meant was:

"since your card's normal resolution is 1280x800, if it's running at 1024x768, it usually suggests that you're running the Microsoft Basic Display driver and not a driver specifically for your graphics card."

I left out that part because it was redundant. he already said his normal display is supposed to be 1280x800. he said in his post that his display is supposed to be 1280x800 but after installing Windows 8, his max resolution is now 1024x768.

and the display of a laptop is a flat panel display. flat panel doesn't mean desktop monitor. in fact, flat panels were common on laptops long before they were common on the desktop.
