As the title says I would like some help setting up my TV as a second monitor. I own this(http://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasic...F8&qid=1374936024&sr=8-1&keywords=B001TH7T2U0) cable to go from my laptops HDMI port and this(http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-DVI-Female-Male-Converter/dp/B001QWXCZ6/ref=pd_sim_ce_1) to go from the DVI to the VGA on my TV. My computer doesn't respond at all when I plug in the HDMI cable but the screen turns black for a second when I tell it to project to a second screen. I don't think it's an issue with the TV as it is regularly used as a second screen for a 2007 issue Macbook and 2012 issue Macbook Pro.
I can provide more specs if you need, thanks.

DVI-I is digital and analog so you can use a DVI to VGA adapter to pick off the analog signal and feed it to a VGA connector. I don't think HDMI has any analog signal, its digital only. There is no analog signal for your DVI to VGA adapter to pick off. The DVI signal is a DVI-D, digital only, coming out of the end of your HDMI to DVI cable.

All you need is an HDMI lead, or a VGA lead with Sub D plugs.

Connect that lead up from your Laptop to your TVs HDMI input, or the VGA input.

Preferably HDMI (v1.4 spec), it is digital only. you can buy such leads in DIY and pound shops etc.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-Speed...9&sr=1-1&keywords=hdmi+to+hdmi+lead+spec+1.4a

You have not said what inputs the TV has. Usually that will be HDMI if it's reasonably recent.

To set that up just right click on Desktop > Graphics Properties > Display > Multiple Displays.

Or go to the Charms bar > Devices > Project > Second Screen > Select what you require, Duplicate, Extend etc.

Obviously the TV will have to be set up to select the relevant HDMI input though it should detect the input automatically.

Old thread guys, Jul 2013. I think the OP has moved on. Not your fault Helmut, it appears the other noob is just spamming threads with links to his web site.

Nick may hold something of a clue about OP. "Karp, Karping" is term we used for "troll, trolling" on CB radio way before internet.
PS. It would be nice if threads not accessed few month be marked "Read only".
