    How to forcedesktop resolution globally???

    Hi!

I want to prevent apps (typically old games) from lowering the desktop resolution. I often change to another app to check out something, and in this case the desktop also runs in the silly low resolution. Plus the window sizes and the icon locations are permanently changed.

I have that problem with Age Of Empires ! Let me know if you find a workaround.

Older games often change the resolution because that is what they were designed for and cannot work properly (if at all) with any other. Interfering with this is likely to produce unpredictable results.

They could be made to "believe" that they changed the resolution, when actually they didn't.

Isn't that a DirectDraw game? (Like AoE2) Because I'm having problems with that too on win8. -_-

I have "Age of Kings" and "The Conquerors" running here, but resolution is oddly locked @ 1024x768. Age of Empires III runs nicely. No compatibility setting needed.
That's what is happening to me.

I'm gonna try the Steam HD version !

When an application changes the display resolution we must assume there was a good reason for this. Usually because the game was designed for that resolution and non other. When a program has been fooled into thinking it has done this but hasn't that program is almost certainly going to have problems, if it can function at all.
