BCCode 141?

Hey all,

So I have been playing PC games for quite a long time without any problems until today. While playing a game (Batman Arkham Asylum) it suddenly froze for like 10 seconds. After that I could continue playing but only for a few minutes until the game suddenly got minimized to the taskbar. Without seeing any error popping up I returned to the game again and continued playing.

Now after quitting the game I checked the logs and I noticed there are 2 error's stating there was a Video hardware error (LifeKernelEvent) which led to Windows not working properly. It also shows some files (WD-20130413-2053.dmp, sysdata.xml and WERInternalMetadata.xml) that could describe the problem but I can't find any of them. There aren't any crashdumps in the Windows folder either.

Here are the 2 errorlogs:

I read that BCCodes describes the error types so I was wondering what BCCode 141 means since there aren't any dumpfiles I can find to see what the exact problem is. I have never encountered any problem with my videocard or the driver (314.07) before. Running checkdisk and SFC /scannow doesn't find any errors or corrupt files.

My specs:
Windows 8 Pro 64 bit
GTX 660Ti running 314.07 driver
8Gb RAM
3570K CPU

Anyone who could help me describe what the cause is of this error? What does BCCode 141 mean?

When you get a BCCode, the system was able to recover from a problem it encountered and did not have to dump to a blue screen (the result of failed recovery from a problem). Code 141 generally means there's an issue with hardware or drivers relating to a particular piece of hardware. In your case, nvlddmkm.sys relates to your card. I suggest updating to 314.22: NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL to see if that helps. Also check your thermals on the card. If it is running too hot, it can start to destabilize and cause the drivers to crash and restart (what's happening in your situation).

I have updated to 314.22 a couple of days ago and so far so good. I don't expect my card running too hot since it isn't overclocked and should run that game easily. Could accumulation of dust on the fans cause any heat problems?

That's possible. If the chips overheat, they start to behave abnormally. It's a good idea to clean your system regularly to keep airflow as high as possible.
