External monitor connected to laptop

My laptops screen resolution is 1366 x 768 and I plugged in a external monitor via hdmi and it's recommended resolution is 1920 x 1080. Everything on my monitor is too big for the screen and the taskbar is cut off along the bottom and when I go to full screen, stuff across the top is cut off.

Second, a silly question. Have you gone into "Screen Resolution" to adjust the added screen? If not please give that a try.

Yes I have. If I go smaller, all it does is just make it to where it all fits, but there is big black bars of empty space around it, and text in browsers looks warped and messed up.

Okay. Check to see if you can play with the function buttons on the monitor. Sometimes monitors will not resort to what the computer is telling it to do.

If that doesn't work then check to see if there is a new driver available for your graphics card. Sometimes Windows will use the drivers it has available, and not the latest updates put out by the graphics card manufacture. Fingers are crossed. . .Good Luck.

Just registered to say that this solution worked for me, thanks!

My (Samsung) monitor was set to display an image size of 16:9. When I changed the setting to "screen fit" the desktop was perfectly set and the text was no longer blurry.
