    BIOS Setting for GPU

    Hi.

I have the following graphics card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 Ti Windforce 2X NVIDIA Graphics Card - 2GB installed on the system in my sig, Please could someone advise the correct BIOS setting for the GPU, The options are: PCI Slot, PEG, PEG1, PEG2 and PEG3

I would be grateful if someone could please confirm which option is best, the card is currently installed in the blue 16X slot on the motherboard.

    Thanks,

I have also just checked GPUZ and it shows the card as running only at @ 2.0 2x as shown in the attached screen shot. The card is inserted into the correct 16x slot on the motherboard.

The usual slot for a single graphics card is the PCI X1q6 slot nearest the CPU. On your motherboard, that is PCI-E X16 slot 1.

In the online pictures I see of your board, all of the PCI-E X16 slots are blue. It is possible that some of the X16 slots aren't wired as X16 electrically. Slot 1 always is X16.

You shouldn't need to set the graphics startup in the BIOS settings. If you wish, though, use PEG (for PCI Express Graphics) or PEG1 (if you have the card in Slot 1).

    Hi,

Thanks for your response the GPU is installed into the blue slot nearest the CPU. I have just changed the BIOS setting to PEG1 and both GPUZ and Aida are now showing the card as running at @16X I assume the 1.1 just means that only one card is being used? I would be grateful if you could please check the attached screenshot and advise if the card seems to be running @16X?

    Thanks,

That's a little odd. It shows the card as running at 16X, but as PCI-E X16 1.1. Your motherboard is supposed to support PCI-E 2.0, which has twice the available data rate of PCI-E 1.0 or 1.1. Your graphics card supports PCI-E 3.0, which is faster yet, but you can't get that on your motherboard. (That shouldn't affect performance at all.)

I'm not sure what to suggest. AMD chipset drivers, possibly:

    Hi,
    Thanks again for your response,

I have just bench marked the card and it seems that when the card is under load it runs at @2.0 x16 as shown in the attached picture. Do you think the reason it reverts back to 1.1 when not under load is to save power?

I see Gigabyte also have a BIOS update for the card not sure if that might help with getting it to run at 2.0 x16 all the time?

Edit - upon researching further it seems that newer GPU cards switch between 1.1 and 2.0 to save power when the GPU is not underload.
