    Which graphics card is better?

Which graphics card is better? NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS or Intel® HD Graphics 4000?

I know the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS is over 7 years old but its still a dedicated graphics card. So is it faster and better then the Intel® HD Graphics 4000? I hope not because I just ordered a new laptop with the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 installed.

These the specs of the laptop I just ordered (Dell Inspiron 17): Inspiron 17 laptop details | Dell UK

    • 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3337U processor (3M Cache, up to 2.70 GHz)

    Operating System

    • Windows 8 64bit, English

    • 17.3in HD+ (1600 x 900) Backlit Display with Truelife

    • 4GB2 DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz

    Hard Drive

    • 500GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive

    Video Card

    • Intel® HD Graphics 4000

    Optical Drive

    • 8x DVD+/-RW Optical Drive

    Case Colour

    • LCD Back Cover : Black

    • Dell Wireless 1704 Card (802.11n + BT 4.0)

    Security Software

    • McAfee® SecurityCenter 15 Month Subscription

    Primary Battery

    • Primary 6-cell 65 W/Hr

    Services and Support

    • 1 yr Next Day In-Home Service with Premium Phone Support

    Advertised System Weight

    • 2.64 kg.

If I'm right the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 is a lot better then the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS if that's the case then how much better is it? can the laptop I just ordered run games like call of duty black ops 2 or even battlefield 3? on lowest settings?

Sorry if the questions have obvious answers, I'm a noob at these things.

The best way to find out would be to run the benchmarks on the PC with the card installed and then again with the onboard video. That way you would have an "apples to apples" comparison, except the video card. That should give you the most pertinent results.

    Benchmarking site

I would ref the following site prior to purchasing any hardware.

PassMark Software - PC Benchmark and Test Software

Use that site with caution. I used to recommend it, but it appears that some of the benchmarks are bogus. Whether it's a fundamental problem with the benchmarks, or simply uncorrected errors in the table entries, I don't know.
