Radeon HD 6550M and Windows 8 Issue

Hi guys,

I have an ACER 3820TG-482G50nss notebook, which should have a switchable Radeon HD 6550M GPU.

My problem started yesterday as I upgraded my OS from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (it was not a clean upgrade as I did not want to re-install all the programs back to my computer). After I have installed Windows 8, my Radeon HD 6550M GPU stopped working. At the moment there seems to be a number of problems I have to overcome.

Firstly, I have downloaded the latest driver from AMD and it does not seem to work at all.

Secondly, when I go to Device Manager, my GPU is listed as Radeon HD 5000 series, when in fact it is a 6550 (I know it is, because I double-checked it when I bought the computer from the shop 3 years ago).

Thirdly, Acer does seem to have released my GPU's driver for Windows 8. I did, however, managed to download and install the latest BIOS update for my GPU.

There seems to be a lot of information regarding similar issues happening to HP computers. Does anyone know what is happening to my Acer? Can someone help me to shed some light on my issue?
