Screen underscan (Win8+ATI Radeon 5000)

  1. #11

The driver will get installed as part of installing CCC. What I meant was to make sure you are installing the entire package that way, not trying to install CCC by itself. You need both the driver and CCC to be able to adjust the underscan.

When you check device manager does it show the name of the video card (ie Radeon HD 5000 Series)? If it does the video driver is installed.

I've made it! Not sure if it will help in all cases , but it did the trick for me (without installing CCC):

    1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution
    2. Click on advanced settings -> Advanced settings in Adapter tab
    3. Go to Driver tab -> Update driver
    4. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software', then 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
    5. I selected Ati Radeon HD 5470 (as suggested on Dell's site for my PC).

and that's it! the new driver was installed and after a couple of seconds full screen was used.hope that helps.

you have to play with your Catalyst settings. I had a similar problem with an ATI 6450 card doing the same on one of my monitors.

I notice you have a laptop. a lot of OEMs block the use of ATI drivers from the ATI website. they want you to download the Dell-tailored drivers. this is problematic because companies like Dell can take awhile before they release drivers and are always much slower than ATI/AMD with releasing drivers.

If you can't get the latest Dell drivers to install, you may be in some trouble. Vendors like Dell stop upgrading drivers after awhile to get you to buy a newer computer.

There used to be something called Mobility Modder which was a utility that modified the official ATI drivers so that they would work on any ATI mobile platform but the program has since been discontinued and hasn't received support for a long time now.

Nvidia does a similar thing so a lot of people use the site LaptopVideo2Go which has modified INF files so that people can get the latest drivers for their mobile system. Luckily, laptopvideo2go is still going strong. Unfortunately, modifying INF files only goes so far and if your graphics is "too old", it doesn't help.
