    SLI Mode in Win 8

This is not strictly a Win 8 issue, and may apply equally to win7, but can anyone tell me if it is possible to run 2 graphics cards in SLI mode - (both Nvidia chipsets) but from two different manufacturers?

I have a Gigabyte GTX460 1GB O.C and was wondering if it would be possible to run another GTX 460 from say Palit or even Gigabyte, if it was the standard 1GB card without the O.C. I know that the advice is to run identical cards, but I cannot get a hold of the same card I have anymore where I live but can get a Palit, and even the Gigabyte, but they are not EXACTLY the same.

What part of the graphics card does SLI need to recognize to be compatible? I would have thought that the Gigabyte non OC version would work fine, even if it means me down clocking my original card.

    Thanks for any advice!

    According to nVidia, you can:

    SLI | FAQ | GeForce

    (I haven't used SLI myself.)

In the extreme, you could flash the same firmware onto both cards if they are both based on the reference design, but it's risky, and probably unnecessary.

OK, I was fooling around with IE 10 and at some point it got into a state where it only starts in desktop mode. I followed some directions for how to select the mode, but my mode choice is greyed out for some reason. Any idea why?
