    Screen Resolution is limited

    Hi,

I have a new asus Laptop with windows 8 operation system. I've connected another 22" LG screen but no matter how I change the settings, I'm not able to increase the big screens resolution beyond 1024X768. althought I was able to run this screen with higher resolution with my previous computer.

I tried to update the driver under "advanced settings"-->"properties"-->"driver". and also "Roll back driver" at the same window. both attempts were unsuccessful.

is there anything that can be done? using such a low resolution for a 22" screen feels like such a waste.

    Thanks,
    Omri

That one always comes up here on the forums... problems...

Is it embedded in the processor? I'm not sure. (I have something like that but Graphic 4000 and it is)
There's a chance you have a second graphic card but depends on computer model/type.

Here is a link to drivers:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...cs+3000%2f2000

Choose Windows 8 and then 64bit or 32bit (acording to what you have).
Then try to install the zip version from Device Manager. This always works.

You can try the exe installer first if you're unfamiliar with drivers.
But if this fails: it's back to the zip version.

    Good luck

    Thanks.

I wasn't able to install the new driver after downloading it. I went to Device Manager-->Monitor-->Driver-->Update Driver-->Browse my cumputer-->(here I selected the folder which I downloaded) , and then chose the driver I've just downloaded thanks to your link. there was a message saying the current driver is up to date and therefore there was no change in the driver. obviously I'm not doing it right. do you have an idea what might be the problem?

    thanks again.

Yes, the problem lies with clone mode(extended mode will allow you to use the full resolution on a separate desktop), if you want to use your full desktop experience, you will need to disable the laptop monitor, there should be a function key with a display on there, hold FN and the monitor function key and it should switch off the laptops display, which will allow you to independently set the resolution of the 22" monitor.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I don't think the problem lies in the settings. I tried your suggestion (and any other reasonable configuration that came up my mind), unsuccessful so far. my PC skills are somewhat limited so even if the advise were good I wasnt able to apply them well enough. my guess, though, would be something with the driver.

this is very odd. I'm able to set my resolution on my laptop screen to the optimal, bot unable to increase big screens resolution, which is now way lower than laptops screen.

    You're doing it wrong!
But you'll improve a little bit now.

The Display adapter is the right one NOT the Monitor.

Many other people must have had the same problem: That's why no drivers get installed when they should...

    I hope it works.
    Good luck.

Thank you very much for your answes.

however, there's no progress yet. this time I chose the right option under !device manager" but got the same message again - "The best driver software for your device is already installed".

I've downloaded a few softwares for detacting missing and outdated drivers, and it was, as expected, found that the monitor driver is problematic regarding the additional attached screen.

I've plugged my laptop to a different screen, and there was no problem with adjusting the resolution.

my screen is LG Flatron 2262TQ.

I'm pretty sure now that my problem is either missing the spesific driver for this kind of screen, or my incapibility of installing it correctly.

still would love to have your help

and thanks again for all those who answered and tried to help

the specific driver is this one here> LG L226WTQ-WF Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG UK assuming the model number is correct, just select the software updates from the download list, there's a number of models with the same model number but with extra letters on the end, have a look through the drivers if you can on LG support site by clicking through the monitor list here: LG Support UK: Customer Service and Technical Support | LG UK

Awful Screen Resolution in Graphic Cards
In windows 7 my best screen res is 1280x800 which is great, however on windows 8 I only get two options 800x600, or 1024x768 which looks terrible, does anybody know why this is, and is it just because its and early build of windows or are Microsoft just being stupid.
I have installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview, but I can't the screen resolution of 800x600 to choose. Only 1024x768 is displayed which is greyed out and I can't select any other resolution. However, I have updated the monitor drivers and I am using 800x600 resolution in windows 7.
