Screen Resolution is limited

Hi,

I have a new asus Laptop with windows 8 operation system. I've connected another 22" LG screen but no matter how I change the settings, I'm not able to increase the big screens resolution beyond 1024X768. althought I was able to run this screen with higher resolution with my previous computer.

I tried to update the driver under "advanced settings"-->"properties"-->"driver". and also "Roll back driver" at the same window. both attempts were unsuccessful.

is there anything that can be done? using such a low resolution for a 22" screen feels like such a waste.

Thanks,
Omri

thanks.

its Intel HD Graphic 3000 , if I understand it correctly.

That one always comes up here on the forums... problems...

Is it embedded in the processor? I'm not sure. (I have something like that but Graphic 4000 and it is)
There's a chance you have a second graphic card but depends on computer model/type.

Here is a link to drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...+Processors+with+Intel®+HD+Graphics+3000/2000

Choose Windows 8 and then 64bit or 32bit (acording to what you have).
Then try to install the zip version from Device Manager. This always works.

You can try the exe installer first if you're unfamiliar with drivers.
But if this fails: it's back to the zip version.

Good luck

I wasn't able to install the new driver after downloading it. I went to Device Manager-->Monitor-->Driver-->Update Driver-->Browse my cumputer-->(here I selected the folder which I downloaded) , and then chose the driver I've just downloaded thanks to your link. there was a message saying the current driver is up to date and therefore there was no change in the driver. obviously I'm not doing it right. do you have an idea what might be the problem?

thanks again.

Yes, the problem lies with clone mode(extended mode will allow you to use the full resolution on a separate desktop), if you want to use your full desktop experience, you will need to disable the laptop monitor, there should be a function key with a display on there, hold FN and the monitor function key and it should switch off the laptops display, which will allow you to independently set the resolution of the 22" monitor.

Hope this helps.

I don't think the problem lies in the settings. I tried your suggestion (and any other reasonable configuration that came up my mind), unsuccessful so far. my PC skills are somewhat limited so even if the advise were good I wasnt able to apply them well enough. my guess, though, would be something with the driver.

this is very odd. I'm able to set my resolution on my laptop screen to the optimal, bot unable to increase big screens resolution, which is now way lower than laptops screen.

You're doing it wrong! :D
But you'll improve a little bit now.

The Display adapter is the right one NOT the Monitor.

Many other people must have had the same problem: That's why no drivers get installed when they should...

I hope it works. :)
Good luck.

Thank you very much for your answes.

however, there's no progress yet. this time I chose the right option under !device manager" but got the same message again - "The best driver software for your device is already installed".

I've downloaded a few softwares for detacting missing and outdated drivers, and it was, as expected, found that the monitor driver is problematic regarding the additional attached screen.

I've plugged my laptop to a different screen, and there was no problem with adjusting the resolution.

my screen is LG Flatron 2262TQ.

I'm pretty sure now that my problem is either missing the spesific driver for this kind of screen, or my incapibility of installing it correctly.

still would love to have your help

and thanks again for all those who answered and tried to help

If it's the right driver, it will work.
Is that an exe or zip file?
The driver has to be extracted to a folder and only then browse to this folder from device manager.

Are you on 32bit or 64? Because the driver has to match with the system in order to work.

Do I have to extract it to the a spefic folder, such as one of the system folders? otherwise, its not working. downloaded the file, extracted it to downloads folder, tried to change the driver to this folder but was told again that the best drive3r is already installed.

but thanks again, anyway

Sorry.

The exe installer here or the zip seems to be the best suitable 64bit option from Intel:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...+Processors+with+Intel®+HD+Graphics+3000/2000
But it depends if there are different types of those graphics (different motherboard specs).
Otherwise use the current drivers if no other better match.

What I do on my pc is just uninstall the older driver + delete software from Device Manager and then install the new one from scratch.

Sorry for all the tips that didn't worked in this case.

Hopachi

as far as I understand its:
ASUSTek COPMUTER INC model X501A

Thanks

If the ones I posted fro Intel don't work...

In that case see this:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download X501A
select: Windows 8 64bit

+ VGA driver
VersionV9.17.10.2828
It's pretty recent: 2012.10.19update
Extract the zip to install but remove (uninstall) the older one just to start clean.
This is the one for your notebook, X501A.

Good luck.

I followed your instruction. unfortunately there was no change. I tried, after failing, to open the exe file dierectly instead. but it said I have no minimum requirements for that. when going the regular way there was no change.

This is odd. ASUS recommends that driver for your device on Win8and still nothing...

-Try to run that installer as administrator .
-Yes, you can also extract it with 7-Zip (right click -> 7-Zip -> extract...) and then Device Manager routine.
7-Zip

Otherwise you'll have to rely on a Win7 driver (same site) or remain with the current one (this is last option).

One last tip:
If you have older "Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver" installed:
info.png
If you don't have it, it's not necessary to install, in my opinion.

I've given all the tips I got. :)
Nothing more to add.

Good luck
