My HP Pavilion notebook has an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card. I have not found a Windows 8 driver for this card, but at least two older Vista drivers that I have tried will run the card.
But after installing the display driver the boot sequence proceeds normally up to the lock screen (where password information is entered) which then appears blank. There is not a way to get past the blank lock screen, and the only way out is to uninstall the display driver. After uninstalling, the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter takes over again, the lock screen appears, and is not a problem once more.
I don't think the driver is directly responsible for this, as it seems to function normally. But something causes a hang at that screen. Possibly this is where the installed driver should have started but it is late in starting, so nothing is displayed?
