Before my upgrade from Windows 7 I had a working dual monitor setup. With Windows 8 I get a message that says "Your PC can't project to another screen." My display adapter shows to be Microsoft Basic Display adapter. I don't know where or how to start troubleshooting. Can someone offer guideance?

I guess that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter doesn't support multiple screens. You'll need drivers for you graphics card.

As you haven't posted what it is, or information that might lead to finding out what it is (like the make and model of the PC), we can't point you to a place to download the drivers.

I hope that your graphics adapter isn't one of those that has no Win8 drivers. Microsoft includes many drivers in the Win 8 installer, but that's as a courtesy; the drivers are actually from the manufacturer. Some manufacturers haven't produced Win 8 drivers for their products. (Similar things happened in going from XP to Vista.)

Thanks for the reply. How can I find what graphics card I have? Sorry that I am not well educated here.

For starters: what's the PC?

If you have not done so try this…
Move your mouse to either top or bottom right-hand of the screen until (charm bar) appears
Click on charm called (Devises) then click on (second screen) set it up from here.

RV370 is a graphics card series, not a card:

The cards are old (at least, as defined by AMD); AMD assigned them "legacy" status under Windows 7, which mainly means that they would not receive regular driver updates.

ATI Catalyst

I suggest trying the drivers at the link I provide. I don't know how easy they'll be to install, but at least they're WDDM 1.0 drivers, which are supported in principle under Windows 8.

I had to replace the card. I appreciate the replies and insights.

That's a wise choice, rather than trying to limp along with unsupported hardware.
