Preinstalled Intel HD Graphics Drivers Preventing Graphic Control Menu

So I install Windows 8 the display shows everything good to the native resolution. My issue is I want the features of my Graphics control panel...Mainly for video scaling...if I run a game and it only supports a 4.3 aspect ratio, I get the luxury of stretching to 16.9 I really dislike borders :huh:

From the HP site the drivers are only for Windows 7 both 32 and 64 bit.

Now this is my second time around installing windows 8...The first time I was able to install the windows 7 drivers somehow and have access to the graphics control panel...not really sure what I did...I did a upgrade install and accidentally mixed up some files. The point is I know its possible to get it working.

On Windows 8 each time I try to install I get errors like...

When I manually go to install the drivers these two are what I see which I do not want.



If I choose to disable or uninstall the WDDM 1.1 driver and then go to install the Intel HD Graphics driver from the setup...an Intel Rapid Storage Installer pops up instead? Wtf? why?

I've also tried the HP Support Assistant...didn't detect or correct anything driver related.

and my graphics control panel in case anyone is lost...notice the options I miss out on with just the pre-installed driver which I could have.



I don't understand why Windows 8 isn't friendly with these drivers in compatibility mode. I even tried using the .inf driver files and no luck. Theres a thread on this forum somewhere where users are manually making custom installers, but I just cant quite wrap my head around it.

I want to make the full jump later this week, but I don't want any issues or to look back at 7.

Any solutions?

I believe you are making things a bit too complicated. You see, Windows 8 provides outdated Arrandale Intel HD Graphics drivers. Arrandale is the codename for mobile Intel Core processors released in 2010. Intel purposely blocked users from installing the Windows 7 Intel HD Graphics drivers on Windows 8, which is why you get errors. Why did Intel do this? Because they are jerks. They will most likely never release Arrandale Intel HD Graphics drivers for Windows 8.

As you can see I also have a laptop with Intel HD Graphics (Core i5 430M) running with Windows 8, as well as the control panel.



You will need to do a little bit of hacking, but its really simple. Just follow the instructions from this website. Remember to always get the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers.

I recommend doing it this way. It feels more cleaner. (You'll also see how Intel blacklisted Windows 8 in the driver files) But you can find on the forums and use the custom installer if you want. Its a matter of choice.

Thanks for the response and sorry im late coming back I thought the thread would just blow over.

Its strange I stayed on windows 7 for a few days and rebooted to windows 8 today...I have been checking that HP page for my drivers like a mad man because they had gave AMD 2 sets of drivers for graphics and only no 32 support at all. I figured they may just be slow rolling out new drivers and I think that's what it was.

The drivers for Intel HD Graphics were posted for my laptop...finally. I go to install them and boom I get this still.



Now even stranger earlier my screen flashed sort of the reaction you get when changing your resolution.

About a hour later I end up right clicking the taskbar and boy was I was shocked...It said Graphic Options! My issue was solved...



However the Graphics Control Panel crashes when you open advanced mode? Never mind I had to enable Net Framework from Features and restart "fixed".

I reinstalled windows 8 because I know there was a possibility I screwed things up randomly dropping files and wanted a clean slate.

Same thing happened I got the weird flicker then my panel was installed after.

Anyone tell me what Microsoft is doing? I don't have any info that it was an automatic update. I'm a bit lost on how the drivers automatically install...Im also lost as to why HP puts those Intel HD Graphics drivers up for download and they still don't pass whatever requirement check windows 8 is asking for. Would it make more sense to wait for a chipset driver?
