-System wide UI customization
As in, for example a floral Desktop theme, said theme would have purply window color, purply Ribbon in Windows Explorer, complement colors, and the Start Screen would have a purply color with a floral pattern to it. Make the PC personal!
-Control Panel consolidation
I find it odd that I have to go to two different places to customize my PC. I have to go to PC Settings to change my user account picture, then go to Control Panel to change my wallpaper. I even have to activate Windows BEFORE I can change my lock screen, but not my wallpaper. Make ONE place the ONLY place to change this. Maybe redesign the Control Panel to accommodate touch input better.
-Better form factor adaptation
If I have a desktop, I'm going to use desktop apps by default regardless of installed apps that can somewhat do that function. I don't want to navigate through my Music or Pictures or Video libraries and open a file, and then be taken to an app. What?! Also, adapt the Start Screen to mouse users better. It's weird to shut down my PC from the Start Screen. You have to "hot corner" open the Charms Bar, but that scrolls the Start Screen over. Gee.
-More dynamic, metro animations in Start Screen and Desktop
The Developer Preview was pretty animated and had the metro hinged animations. The CP doesn't so much. I want to see, maybe at startup, the Start Screen tiles kind of flying in. The Windows Phone 7 has some really cool animations to it, and the UI has animations that seem to appear as though the UI elements are in front of the screen, and land on a location on the screen.
-BRING BACK THE START BUTTON LOGO ON THE LOWER LEFT OF THE SCREEN!
I don't get how this happened, a thumbnail of your Start Screen is your Start button. No. Just no. I can accept a hovery Start button, but make it the new Start logo, I want to use it and not just on the Charms bar! A simple fix could be to have the logo there, and keep the app taskbar as it is, but instead of the thumbnail it is the Start logo with "Start" next to it. In Desktop, you can hover over Start, move up and switch to an open app; or even just move right to open a Desktop app. Also, with that, have the currently open app over the Start logo so it's faster to switch, and not have to move the point ALL over the left side of the screen to switch apps.
-Improving AutoCorrect
It sometimes always works, then it has its moments. Come on Microsoft, you're butter to your bread Office can be integrated here...
-Windows To Go improvements
I can't sleep the PC on a Windows To Go drive. It also doesn't actively manage the processor's clock speed either.
-Scroll bar
I don't like it. It just seems SO bland. It should look modern, not a retro Windows 2000 scroll bar.
-I kind of want glass tiles versus ceramic...
On the Start Screen, it'd be nice to have transparent tiles as well as transparent windows.
-Make as MANY improvement to Automatic Maintenance.
The main fundamental flaw with Windows is system degradation. Automatic Maintenance is step in the right direction, but it needs to be improved as much as possible to keep an eight year old install of Windows 8 running as fast as an eight minute old install of 8.
-Windows Media CENTER
Also, speaking of flaws, Windows has no real great, main media player. WMP is good and all, but it's awful to use. mac has itunes, ipad has itunes, Windows must have a greater equivalent. Windows Media Center. It should have a large codec pack, be very fast, and be very responsive, be of metro design (Zune software), and be able to manage ALL devices, even an ipad.
-Hibernate CANNOT take longer to resume than Hybrid Boot.
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but resuming from hibernate with nothing running takes longer than booting with Hybrid Boot.
-Expand further on built in capabilities
A Desktop PDF reader, a great media player, webcamming, ect.....
-Make metro app navigating on Desktop easier
I've been annoyed from time to time in Outlook 2010 and other Desktop apps how I sometimes accidently switch an app or pull up the metro task bar just trying to send an email. This can be fixed with my Start button idea.
-Hyper V needs SERIOUS work!
I figured by this time, Hyper V would be matured more, not the case, not one bit. I couldn't even get Windows 8 to be working correctly, or 7. I hear vista works fine. I also don't understand why I can't go full screen, a full environment, in a VM. This needs to be fixed, VMware is still my choice for virtualization so far. Hyper V needs to meet that standard or better. Also, within a VM, I'd like to be able to access the host's files. This can be done with a networked drive in the VM, but I'd like to see a simple logging on to the host from the VM. For example, I could go to My Computer, find under the Media Server tab, and click on my host's PC name and enter in the credentials for a user, and log in and access files.
-Metro has be better on higher definition screens
It's weird that my 1440x900 monitor displays almost the same amount as higher definition screen or a lower on. I don't get this, having a higher resolution screen doesn't matter anymore?
This is my list, out of many I can think of off the top of my head. I seem to be getting my wish of a new sound scheme, so I'll keep on hoping!
