Solved My experience with Acronis True Image

Before you decide to put your trust in Acronis, please read this. I used Acronis for the last two years, made many backups (system images) but never had a chance to test its recovery/restore feature until now. Recently, I messed up with my system configurations and didn't like the way windows looked afterwards. So, I decided to restore my system using Acronis System Backup. Acronis asked me to confirm, I did and the PC went into restarting mode. After some time the screen was totally blank and nothing happened for like 3 hours. I disconnect my external HDD (the drive which had Acronis .tib files) and shutdown my PC (press n hold start button). When I started it back, Lo and Behold, the great Acronis had restored nothing and my PC was in the same state. Repeated the same process again and again with the same results. I contacted Acronis and as per their suggestion I let Acronis modify my MBR (A SERIOUS MISTAKE).........Once I shutdown, my Windows didn't boot again at all. In short, Acronis had messed up my system. (Keep in mind that my pc was in full normal working condition and I only wanted to restore because I didn't like some visual enhancements I had made)........ Luckily, I had made a System Image backup using Windows native Recovery Feature (I never truly trusted Acronis)......and I must say Windows native System Image Backup saved my rear. It restored everything, without any errors or glitch and my PC was back again to a normal state......Not only Acronis failed to restore the backup but it also messed up the system and made it unbootable and if I had not made a backup using windows recovery feature, I would have been in a big big mess. As if this achievement of Acronis was lacking something, later Acronis failed to Identify its own validated backups..........My advise to everyone who is going to rely on this is PLEASE BEWARE.........All that glitters is not Gold....

I used to use Acronis True Image. Acronis failed me twice on doing restores and it never got a 3rd chance. I've switched to Macrium Reflect (paid version) and no problems (after 3 years).

I have started using Aomei Backupper now, but still wont trust any third party backup tool untill it has proven its worth. As a safe side I always make a backup with Windows own Recovery Feature. So far that's the only thing that has worked for me, flawlessly.

Having uninstalled Acronis, I experimented on Aomei Backupper (free edition). I created system image backup with it and then deliberately made some changes to the PC (to check its restore function). Aomei, just like Acronis asked for the confirmation and then went into restarting mode. Unlike Acronis, the utility did show up upon restart and begun its system restore process. It finished everything successfully and then shutdown. I thought "wow, this program is awesome" BUT, when I started the laptop, I was welcomed by a BSOD. In short AOMEI had corrupted literally everything including the recovery partition. In order to get back to my PC, I had to boot using Windows Repair Disk and Restore the System Image. I just fail to understand that why these software companies try to give us fake assurance when all they can deliver is nothing but bullshit? Imagine a user who relies on these crapwares...........I request all the users to share their "Recovery Experiences" in this thread. It will be really helpful to all.

You might have a better experience with Macrium Reflect:) You could also try creating a custom refresh image.

When I uninstalled Acronis (even using the clean up utility) there were over 100 registry entries left over. I had to manually edit the registry to remove all traces of Acronis.

Yes, Acronis software engineering is poor

I have been using Acronis True Image for some time now, so far, very little trouble [for now]. I've been using Macrium Reflect Pro more and more often recently, here too, very little trouble! I just recently added Image for Windows to my backup routine on one of the two laptops. The restores of OS partitions from all three have succeeded -- as long as the hardware is spot on, as long as the software OPs is spot on. I decided to stop updating after ATI 2016 [the one w/o Cloud].

Glad to hear that ATI is working for you. I haven't tried Macrium Reflect yet. Will try it out and post feedback.
