Automatic Repair Error Black Screen

A few weeks ago, my computer broke and I was going to have it get fixed, but the repairman never came. Something happened when I was not at my computer that caused it to crash and shut down. When I got home, I went to my computer and saw it was off. I turned it on and immediately windows launched into startup repair. It started automatically repairing so I let it go through. After it finished, there was a black screen. I let the black screen sit there for a while but it stayed a black screen. I turned it off and tried again, but it produced the same result every time.

How do I fix this? I have no specs to provide because I did not record any down when I had the computer. I wish not to reinstall windows and lose all my files. I also do not have a windows installation disc.

I just had this happen to a system i was working on, it was a flashing black screen, you can barely make out that it was flashing.
This happened after multiple windows updates back to back..

The only fix was to allow it to restore to a previous restore point, and it fixed the problem, minus a few installed programs that I had to reinstall, no biggie, just 3 or 4...

If you have a recovery disk use it and select restore to a previous restore point.

If you can manage to enter safemode, you should be able to do it from there in PC SETTINGS, otherwise you need the CD or usb boot repair.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I have no restore points and startup repair does not work so that is a problem. I can not also enter safe mode. Any other ideas without the CD?

At this point before going any further, i would connect this harddrive to another PC and backup files and folders you want to save in case of disaster..

Once that is done you can get more aggressive with your repair efforts..

In the past ive been able to repair a windows 8 boot problem with a Windows 7 repair cd or usb..

I found it odd that windows 8 could not repair an issue but windows 7 (an obvious older piece of software) could..

You can either run a chkdsk on your current drive via another PC or a utility CD like Hirens boot cd, ultimate boot cd,

I like Hirens boot cd

Looks like youre going to need a cd or usb of some sort to get this going again..
