Speaking of internet, today is International Internet Day.
International Internet Day is celebrated worldwide, every year on 29th of October. Since the year 2005 the International Internet Day has been famously celebrated to commemorate a momentous day in the history of telecommunications and technology. This was the event of the sending of the first message, first electronic message which was transferred from one computer to another in 1969. This was situated in California, in the USA. Today the International Internet Day is also an on-line project germinating from the society, of the society and for the society. The International Internet Day project is open to everyone and anyone just as access to the internet is open and free for everyone. The International Internet Day thus celebrates this grand democratic fervor which in essential is linked to this idea of liberation, where everyone is afforded an equal opportunity and an equal advantage to share of services, which connect the world to each other.

Nice little bump David :shock: Gotta love Comcast internet. I have paid the same since I got it 20+ years ago (wasn't cheap then), and it was 3 or 4 Meg. I have 55Meg now, and they just upgraded it, no requests or anything needed from me. A Guy

I can really tell the difference with NetFlix movies.
They load almost immediately.

Brad, judging from a few indicators like the date (11/34/14), PDT for Hawaii, B.S. Cable, and Lackanookie, I'm guessing (pure guess of course) that the speeds are somewhat bogus.

Speeds "speedtest.net" shows the speed between your computer and your provider. If you want to see real pid you may expect downloading something, you have to set Speedtest.net to site that file/s are coming from and only than it may approximate speed of downloading you may expect. That may wary with load that site sending the file from or load of internet nodes it has to go thru.
So, you can get into situation when you have great speed between you and your ISP and still have download going extremely slow. In any case download can go no faster then the maximum speed between your ISP and you.

That's really a very good answer to that speedtest results . How would I set speedtest to assess the speed while downloading a particular file?

While downloading a particular file it is best to use either Performance Monitor or dedicated program that shows current speed. Something like: Download NetTraffic - MajorGeeks . I keep this one open all the time.

With this one, you can keep statistics of how much you are downloading and uploading which may be interesting for people with metered internet.

Doesn't that 3G modem have it's own monitoring way ? I don't know about India but around here ISPs with 3G internet give set number of GB to download at full speed but after that speed drops down to 200 Kbps til end of pay period and than it goes back again. It's most expensive way to internet here and few years ago i had to use it and didn't like download limits at all. Had to go to friends with unlimited internet to download anything substantial. Max speeds are now up to 40Gbps but with small download limits of up to 15GB for me it's almost unusable to say nothing about expensive, up to 4 times more than WiFi.
Still it's much better than Dial up I had 10 -12 years ago or days before internet when I had to use 300 Baud modem from my Atari to connect to friends and BSS stations, company bank etc.

Here they don't have an unlimited plan as you said. It is 3g in mobile to which I'm connecting for net access. No unlimited Wi-Fi or any Wi-Fi for that matter in my region, but heard it's provided in metropolitan cities (mumbai, bangalore etc).

My mobile 3g plan:
$3 for 1gb & $4 for 2gb - 1 month validity; thereafter it increases , Max provided by my carrier is $16 for 10gb & $30 for 20gb - 3 month validity.
After the data limit/validity, they charge for each KB, speed remains the same.

I get around 10Mbps.

Is quite expensive compared to home broadband which at present I've no access to.
Compared to old dial up connection, 3g is gold for me

Yeah, about same prices here too, bit by bit and byte by byte it's at least twice expensive than WiFi and at least 43 times that of ADSL and cable internet. 4G didn't get into wide use yet and fiber network with speeds of 100Mbps and more, just in the big cities and center only. I'm only 12 klicks from Belgrade and WiFi @ 15/3 Mbps is only viable option for me still. With so little of fast internet around the world, it's ridiculous how much are they pushing Cloud and prescription SW. It would take days just to find anything if I had to keep backups for everything I have on HDDs and DVDs.

True, I turned off all Cloud sync from my laptop and mobile just 1 month back for the exact same reason. But I regularly do the backups , since I joined this Forum
