Windows RT unit set to automatically boot from USB

I have a Lenovo Yoga 11 with Windows RT installed that I bought second hand. Whenever it is booted the unit will hang for a bit at the loading screen, display a screen with some version information and dates, THEN start the boot process from the HD. If plug a USB drive with restore media on it the unit will automatically boot to it without my having to hold the volume up+Windows button as is supposed to be necessary.

I am not sure how or why the computer was set up to automatically boot to USB. I can't find any way to edit the UEFI firmware settings, even in Recovery Mode, I'm not even sure if there is actually a way. I would like to turn this functionality off if possible, since it slows down the boot process considerably. I searched the internet quite a bit and am stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do believe it by design for a unit like yours ,especially when the usb device has recovery media on it ,I don't understand why you would have it plugged in unless you were wanting to recover the unit ?

Hello Nfinity, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Using the method in the tutorial below to disable automatically booting from a Windows To Go USB will also disable it for all USBs.

Hope this helps for now, :)

Thank you Brink. I found this before and attempted option 2, disabling via an elevated command prompt, but when I type the command I get the following error:

'pwlauncher' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Do all of these methods require a Windows To Go USB?

if you are typing the command ,try a copy and past the command , pwlauncher from the tutorial to the elevated command prompt, using the right click on mouse or touch pad

The command is for "Windows To Go", but is applied for all USBs, so it's not required.

See if what Jack posted above to copy and paste in an elevated command prompt may work better for you. :)

Thanks to everyone. I won't have a chance tonight to do anything with the computer, but I plan on trying every suggestion in the tutorial you mentioned and reporting back. I appreciate the help from everyone so far.
