Yes, but doing what you suggest won't make it bootable. I should have elaborated more. If you copy the files from a bootable disk to a folder and then copy or burn them to a CD or DVD, that DVD won't be bootable like the original was. There is more to it than just having the files on the media.

I wanted to edit the disk contents and save it as an edited ISO. Which, as mentioned in an earlier post, I did using: Files > ISO option in ImgBurn; after saving the disk contents to desktop.

My problem was I didn't know which file to choose for boot file. I worked it out by trial and error. The linked article you referred me to confirmed I had used the correct boot file.

Hi everyone, my wife's lenovo S405 is acting up badly, windows store is claiming I must update Windows Update first, but for me to update windows update I have to apply laundry list of updates, and bad part is, updates keep failing and windows restarts says they failed and they get removed, so I am stuck with Win 8 (I did 8.1 in the past but for some reason I can't do it now)

Is there a way for me to just download 8.1 directly and use that to go from 8 to 8.1
Actually all I want is to get Win 10 but you can't go from 8 to 10 which is annoying. Is there an easy way to go from 8 to 10?

Yes, either W8 or W8.1 product key will install and activate the W8.1 bootable ISO.

Once you've got it installed, you need to download the Media Creation tool for Win 10 from this link:

When you run the Win10 Media Creation tool, save the ISO as if installing Win10 on another PC. This will give you a bootable DVD or USB ISO.

Now run that ISO from the desktop, and it will upgrade over W8.1 to give you an activated copy of Win 10.

The product key will be saved to the UEFI firmware of your motherboard, so if you want you can do a clean re-install of Win10 from the bootable USB ISO.

If you want to get a copy of the product key, use the attached .exe file named ProduKey contained in the attached zip file, and run from your desktop. This can be directly used when doing a clean install instead of relying on the UEFI.

Note, before doing a clean install, make sure you're happy with Win 10, because you can only roll back to Win8.1 for 30 days. And a clean install will remove this option.
