Solved someone have the same ip address as me

This will happen more and more until IP V6 is able to replace V4. Do a google news search for "IP V4" - there are stories every day about companies and countries running out of IP V4 addresses.

I have seen what broe23 described. Years ago a large local ISP used this system with DSL for a time. In the future it may become more common as IP addresses become more scarce. IPV6 is the real answer but not compatible with older equipment.

In this case if one IP address is banned many users would be effected.
IPv4 IP's are not going to become scarce anytime soon. Right now there are enough IP's available for over 1.4 billion devices with the IPv4 IP scheme.

The funny thing is that if IPv6 was ready now. We still would not be using IPv4. We are not in any danger of running out of IP's. Especially since a lot of the reserved ones have just gotten released within the past year.

They are already scarce. The problem is that class A's were handed out early in the beginning and some companies have truckloads more than they will ever need. There are then others who actually need more and cannot get them.

IPv4 is far from being exhausted. They tried that with telephone exchanges. Once companies started being forced to release their reserves, and quit bulk purchasing to reserve that particular exchange. All of a sudden, there was a large abundance of telephone prefixes for the public.

BTW. Redmond Mag is a Microsoft Herring. I would not trust anything that comes out of their's or Microsoft's mouths.

Do you work in the Internet industry? I've had to get additional IP's added to blocks from our vendors and it's getting much harder. I have to fill out paperwork and prove a need in order to get them to even consider giving me additional IPv4 addresses.

Back in 2011, IANA allocated the last remaining blocks of addresses in the ipv4 pool. It was estimated back at the beginning of 2014, we had about 23 million total usable addresses remaining. As of April, we were supposedly down to about 17 million remaining.

We are only working around issues due to "trickery" and techniques like Carrier Grade NAT (CGN) and regular NAT. Without these workaround technologies, we wouldn't have addresses left.
