So my problem is that I wanna replace my modified imageres.dll files back to normal ones witch I have safe but it won't let me replace them, saying i dont have permission to do that, obviously because they are running with some program. When i installed this Mac OS theme and replaced original imageres.dll with modified, I didn't have any problems with replacing them.

Second problem is this:

I ran CMD sfc scan and i found out some corrupted files that it could not fix.

So I'm asking you guys how to fix these both problems without formating my computer :)

Sorry my bad english, try to understand it

Here is some CBS logs from the sfc scan:

Try this. Run a command prompt as administer. Use this command Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth

I did, it says like this "The restore operation completed successfully. The component store corruption was repaired."

I'm thinking of doing samething with powershell and after that gonna do sfc scan again and see did it fix corrupted files :)

  1. If you have the Windows 8 installation disk, boot it up and follow the steps on the screen to find out what drive your Windows is.

    a.png
  2. In the screen shot it's still C: but sometimes it is assigned to different drive letter:
    - Type: C: then type cd windows\system32 <====== use the correct drive letter if it's not C:
  3. Copy imageres.dll.
  4. Reboot your PC
  5. Open the command prompt (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow again <==== might have to run multiple times

OK, since you don't have the installation disk. You can use the Macrium Rescue disk instead. Download from here: Macrium WinPE .iso - OneDrive . Once downloaded, use: Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way to put in a USB stick. Boot up, then minimize the Macrium backup screen. On the bottom left, you'll see 2 icons: one for Command Prompt, the other for "This PC", you can use either one to get to your Windows\system32 to copy the imageres.dll

Okay, I will try this if I understand it right. :D And my sfc scan finished and it seems this time it actually did fix all corrupted files :)

Quick edit,

To be correct, I put macrium winpe.iso to USB stick with Rufus software, then i reboot my computer from the stick and it should open some folder? And I'm able to get original imageres.dll files(both 32bit and 64bit, since windows 8.1 has both)?

STILL MORE EDIT!

Realised that problem is when I try to replace that modified imageres.dll in system32 folder and syswow64, it won't let me paste the original imageres.dll files, it says I don't have permission to do that even I'm holding every permission to C:. So what are the plans now ^^?

Don't try to update WinSxS. Most of the files in this folders are hard links files. Restore imageres.dll to system32 is enough.
Use this links to cleanup your WinSxS: Clean Up the WinSxS Folder

I couldn´t replace modified imageres.dll with original one, it says i dont have permission to do that. And this morning I can't even get my computer on, I get BIOS screen normally and windows log and loading screen but when desktop / metro menu should open, screen stays black and I can't do anything. When trying to start windows in safe mode, presing F8 continuously when starting windows, it doesn't open any advanced start menu or safe mode, it only gives me boot order menu whatever I wanna boot from CD or hard drive.

I guess my only chance is try to get windows 8 installation files to USB from ms website and try to boot the computer with USB and see if I can do the repair, if not I must format the whole computer and lose all my personal files

Here is the same situation that I helped a while back but in this case he messed around with shell32.dll and it took me a while to find this thread: http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/31525-shell32-issue.html and it worked perfectly.
So check again if you are using the correct drive.

EDIT: You could try first to rename the modified to something else then copy the original to it.

I did try to rename that imageres.dll but i didnt have permission to do that.. So there aint nothing to do so im formating my C: and installing windows again, i will lose my personal files but since there is no way to save them because i couldnt get computer on so i have to deal with it :(

Anyways, thanks for trying to solve this problem even we could not solve it proper way! Installing new windows will atleast destroy all the files and problems what the virus did :)
