We have internet provided through the place we live for free. It is broadcasted as an unsecured wifi network. I can connect to the internet with no problems with my windows 7 computer. I recently got a windows 8 computer. I this computer has trouble staying connected to the unsecured network. It will connect for a few minutes then the limited connectivity will come up. Other times it says its connected has a full strength bar but the connection just spins and nothing loads. I have tried a few other forum suggestions with no luck. I have went to the settings and told the computer to not turn of the wifi to save battery which has not fixed the problem. I do not have access to the router and have not way to change anything with it. I have tried turning of the firewall turning of the windows defender to see it it was those programs but still have a connection problem. I am unsure what setting is keeping the connection from being stable with this computer.

The signal is too low for you to connect is why. Anything below 76% for Signal. You are never going to be able to keep the connection alive. No matter what you do with that machine.
The best thing I would suggest. Is using a USB adapter with external antennas, if it is a laptop. You may be able to use an Access Point as a Bridge to attempt to grab a better connection for units in your place.
The problem is that whomever setup that A/P infrastructure. Did not look at allowing enough coverage for everyone that may access it from outside the fringe coverage area.
You can use inSSIDer to try and find the best signal in your place. But really nothing can be done until the owner of that WiFi network either upgrades their equipment, or adds more Access Points to cover the fringe area.
I have tried connecting the labtop to both a wifi booster antenna and a linksys wifi adapter and the computer will not connect to the wifi signals they provide at all. Only to the internal wifi signals. The connection just keeps spinning and the connection shows as full. When I trouble shoot the connection it says nothing is wrong.
The problem is that there are no Windows 8 drivers that are going to connect to an unsecured wireless G network. And there shouldn't be any either, Wireless G is over ten years out of date and unsecured networks are just plain dangerous.
Time for someone to upgrade their hardware. Maybe a USB adaptor would work. I'm outta here.
No it does not mean to downgrade to Windows 7. Your problem is that the fact that there is not enough coverage from the A/P. You are on the fringe edge of its signal. So you will never get a good connection, no matter what OS you use on that unit.
I'd go with Windows 7 here because it's G signal and most Windows 8 drivers don't support wireless G, depends on the router, drivers etc. You may be able to find a USB wireless NIC that will work. The signal strength is 90 percent so that is not the issue here. I've seen this many times. I've highlighted those things below. Have a nice day.

But I have tried the boosters and I can't connect with it or the adapter. It days i'm connected but when I select Firefox or explorer it says its it is not connected or the status bar just spins. When I troubleshoot the connection it says no issues found
