windows 8 key

i am sorry if i have not been able to explain what i am trying to do. so again, i bought lenovo that came with win 8, i now want to install a SSD and of course win 8 on this SSD. what are my options?
regards

Record the generic product key from the other post. You may need it twice. Once to create an installation media (USB or DVD) and again to install to your SSD.

Click on the link to down load the media. It will ask you for a product ID. You will use the generic key. When you get to the step to install or create media you will make your installation media that will do the install to your new SSD.

Once you have created your installation media swap out your existing hard drive with the SSD.

Use the media you just created to do the new install. If you make a USB installation media then tap F12 continuously as the computer is booting and tell it to boot from the USB. (You need an 8GB minimum USB if I remember correctly) A DVD should auto boot. If not tap the F12 at boot up and select the DVD as the installation media.

You may need to enter the generic code a second time to start the installation process or it may pick it up from the bios automatically. Hopefully it will pick up your product ID automatically and you will be activated. If not post back and someone will help you with the activation process.

i have created a usb recovery, cant I use this to install win 8 on my SSD?

I am not sure on that question. I kept my original USB installation and I use that for any problems. Another option is to make an Image of your existing installation and transfer that to the SSD.

Hi
I am new user of win 8, I bought a lenovo laptop which has win 8 on it and is not activated. I want to install a SSD and do a clean install for win 8. I have previously done win 7 clean install. I have 2 questions. Is win8 clean install will be same as win7 clean install? Secondly in my previous laptop the win7 key was written on the microsoft sticker at the back of laptop but in this laptop there is no microsoft sticker at the back. So where would I get the win8 key?
thats all.
regards

Hi Umair:

First, you need to David Bailey's post and click on and save "ShowKey.vbs" to somewhere on your computer . . . the desktop would be a good place. Once it's on your desktop, click on it and it should show the product key to Windows 8.

Since you want to do a clean install, go to this link and you will see how to save Windows 8 as an ISO. How to download and install the Windows 8.1 ISO -- using a Windows 8 or 8.1 key

There are three versions of Windows 8: Core, Pro and Enterprise. Most likely you have Core, which is primarily for consumers. That's what came on my HP desktop.

Hopefully, that site will get you going in the direction you wish.

As far as I know you can't download an ISO from that link with an OEM key. The generic install keys are blocked too. Unless you have a valid Retail key your SOL. That's an issue a lot of forum members have found them selves in when wanting or having to do a clean install. I have tried to use my Recovery thumb drive to do a Reset to a new SSD and could not get it to work. All I got was "a required partition is missing" even after partitioning the drive. It was a hopeless waste of time. I'm not saying it can't be done, it just may end up being a complicated process and require some skill. I ran out of patience.

Ah, it seems we live and learn . . . I didn't read the site all that closely, so I'm not sure either.

If this is a portent of things to come, then I'm not sure I want to continue with Windows and this may be my last upgrade/downgrade (as you see it). When I'm controlled to the nth degree, I tend to get upset, pick up my toys and go home. At this point unless something changes drastically, Microsoft has gotten its last dime from me.

Yeah, It doesn't become obvious until you click though all the links and see where you end up at. Its to bad too, that OEM keys are blocked. Those are the people that need the ISO the most.
