Solved No Power button on Start Screen After Update 1

So I updated all of my computers to Windows 8.1 Update 1 via Windows Update yesterday. I noticed that on my laptop, my desktop, and my wife's tablet, the power button shows up between the user profile picture and magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the Start Screen.

However, it does not show up on my tablet after the same update. Is it a screen size thing or did I do something wrong?

Yes, if the screen size is smaller than a certain size (700 pixels? I don't recall) it will not appear.

Hello Matthew,

I just tested 1366 x 768 on my Surface Pro 2 with a 10.81", and it still has the Power button on Start for me.

Are you sure that all the Windows Updates are installed?

Are you sure that all the Windows Updates are installed?

It doesn't tell me that there are any more updates. Do you have a list of them?

That's a list of the updates included in the update package you get from TechNet or MSDN. I don't know if it correlates 100% with what you get though Windows update. KB2949621 may only apply to 8.1 Server. As far as I know KB2919355 is the one that adds most if not all the features. I'm pretty sure its the one that adds the power button to the start menu. being that none of your PC's have KB2949621 I don't think that is related to your issue.

I did too, its for both. I just don't think that missing last one is why he doesn't have the power button on his Start Screen. From what I've seen not everybody is getting all 6 on Windows update is all.

My screen's resolution is: 1368 x 768
Does anybody have any suggestions?

I finally got my power button! :) I still don’t know the exact reason of why it was hidden, but now I have it! here is what I did:
I added “Launcher_ShowPowerButtonOnStartScreen” to my registry and set it to 1 (instead of 0, 1 to add, zero to remove)
Here is the link to the detailed instructions of where I found this:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/44237-power-button-start-screen-add-remove.html

Earlier, I tried to see if my “Power_Platform_Role” was set to “8” (PlatformRoleSlate) and wanted to change it if it was, but it was set to “2” (PlatformRoleMobile), so I didn’t change it and tried the registry key method instead.

Glad you sorted it.

For reference as to why some have a power button, and others don't, it doesn't seem to be just screen size that it takes into consideration, but whether it has connected standby.

Taken from the following article - Some tips and tricks for using the Windows 8.1 Update
... However, on some devices you may not see the Power button. On devices that are not tablets like laptops, desktop PCs and All-in-Ones, the Power button should appear on the Start screen after installing the update. On most tablets you will not see the Power button on the Start screen as they have connected standby and a physical power button that lets you quickly shut down or put the device to sleep. However, on tablets larger than 8.5-inches without connected standby, you will see the Power button on the Start screen.

I added the registry entry and it is set to 1, but mine doesnt show up. I rebooted a few times, nothing there. It is a tablet, a Dell Venue 8 Pro. Someone knows why it is not working? I used the bat btw, and I checked via regedit if it's there and set to 1.
