This PC - Add or Remove "Folders" in Windows 8.1

I was just wondering if you guys have this tutorial up here 'cause I just found out, like, five minutes ago, how to do this. Annoying as hell, those folders, and for most users with more than one partition completely useless. Now I can scale down my Explorer window to the size of the context pane

thanks for this, it help a lot to remove these folders in This PC. However, for example, in word and excel, if I go to "File" and click "open", all those folders "desktop, documents, etc..." still show in This PC. Do you have any methods to remove it as well? thanks in advance

Hey Horace,

Actually, I do have a way to add Libraries to "This PC", but it adds then into the "Devices and drives" section though. If you're fine with that, then I could whip up a tutorial for that.

To me it's a but messy that way, so luckily you could just set Libraries to show in the navigation pane.

Thanks for your help it works perfectly apart from one problem. Whenever I create a new folder in Downloads (or Document, Music, Videos) the folder reapears in navigation pane under This PC. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks

When I merge 64-bit_Remove_All_Folders_in_This_PC.reg it doesn’t show in the navigation pane anymore.

But when I create a new folder in download it appears under "This PC" again.

I'm not seeing this when I do the same. As a test, try merging the download .reg file (step 3) again, be sure to approve all prompts (step 12), then restart your PC to see if you still have this issue.

Did you move your user folders or profile to another location by chance?

The tutorial says about to "ADD" and to "REMOVE" folders. I think it is misleading because it only talks about removing those folders. I want to add new "additional folders" besides the six default folders. Your tutorial says nothing about that.

I'm sorry, but this tutorial is for the default "Folders" in "This PC" only. That's why it doesn't say anything about other folders.

Please go ahead and create a new thread in the Customization forum area instead to see what we can do to help.

Same Problem With Me. Help?

I had the same problem, and the downloads folder also did refresh correctly when I created new objects. Here is how I fixed both problems:

Right-click "Downloads" in the navigation pane under "Favorites," select "Remove"
Go to your user folder (type username in address bar)
Open the "Downloads" folder
Right-click "Favorites" in the navigation pane, select "Add Current Location to Favorites"

The problem, if you take a look at your screenshot is that the shortcut under "Favorites" shows "This PC>Downloads" (which should no longer exist). What you need is "Username>Downloads."

Also, if you want the "This PC>Downloads" to go away when opening files, then go to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}\ShellFolder
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}\ShellFolder

and change "attributes" from f080004d to f090004d. You might need to do the same for all the other "This PC" folders...

Hello,

Apologies if i missed this, i did read 4 pages...

The tutorial says Add or Remove, I want to add some folders, not the default ones, but some new ones. Is it possible, if so how? Ideally i'd like to add my library folders.

gmawet, thank you! I had the same thing, and may never have realized what was causing it.

Brink, I think this would be worth adding to the original post. I was having the same issue, that basically if I dragged My Pictures to favorites instead of what's written above, every time I actually entered a folder inside Pictures, it would resurrect under This PC temporarily, until I closed that folder window.
