Solved Why do we sign up to this site every time new windows out

Hi,

I'm sure the owners of this website are the same as vistaforums, sevenforums and now eightforums.

I'm just wondering, why do you guys keep making a new website every time a new version of windows is out. I know there are some benefits for people, such as easier to find relevant information we are looking for, for exactly the version of windows we are using, but I think this also shreds off a lot of members. Normally people don't like signing up to new websites unless they really want to. So this puts people off from signing up and commenting. it will leave only some loyal members left in the end.

I know cos I've been reading around the forum for a while and at times wanted to make a comment but then noticed I had to sign up. I was already a member on vistaforums and sevenforums, so shouldn't have had to sign up again.

Also, does that mean that you will be hosting nineforums, tenforums, elevenforums etc. in future? I hope you have got hold of those domains before they are taken.

Wouldn't it be better to just host one site like "windowsforums" and then create subforums on the index forums page to all the different versions of windows (and perhaps support for other operating systems too?)

Just a though...

All the OS's are different and in our opinion should be kept separate, it takes less than a minute to sign up so I don't see any problem with that.

btw if you want to sign up for nine forums you can from the link in my signature.

Windows 9 Forum looks nice but a little sparse. But seriously, I can log in to 8 Forum but if I try to log into 7 Forum with same username & PW it says;
"You have entered an invalid username or password. Please press the back button, enter the correct details and try again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Click here!"

When I try to make a new ID and use my same email, I get this;
The following errors occurred during your registration
  • The email address you entered is already in use. If you have forgotten your password, please click here. So I guess if I have only one email I'm out of luck joining that forum.

Hello Corax,

I checked at Seven Forums, and you do already have an account with us there. Your user profile page at Seven Forums is at the link below.

Which is what I thought when I mentioned that it must be because it is easier to find information specific to a single operating system. However, I don't see why you can't separate the operating systems in sub-forums.

It does take a minute to sign up. But when you are in the middle of troubleshooting, sometimes you are just reading around and every minute counts and people just move on to next solution. If we were already registered to a site, maybe we would just stop and post the query there and then, or even post a solution if we find one.

There are countless general computer forums out there if that's what you are looking for, but we run specialist forums for each Windows OS with members that are specialist in each OS, we do not run general computing sites nor do we want want to.
