Latest AMD Catalyst Graphics Driver for Windows 8

i could just SCREAM!!

well, thank you so much to the both of you.

sadly i have not seen any updates on the Toshiba website.

what i gather is that i will probably never ever be able to use Photoshop the way i need to because AMD and/or Toshiba will more than likely not fix the driver problems?

just my luck.

ya, i think i can send this computer back for an other two weeks. 30 day money back thing. i bought it from QVC ~ which btw was a total nightmare. they canceled my order 3 times and then i went to set the Supervisor Password and it froze up and then the Toshiba tech guy told me to reset the bios which wiped my puter of everything and so i had to send it back to qvc. what should have been an exciting experience has become a total nightmare.

i really appreciate your help and thoughts. i think i am gonna return the puter ... less someone thinks if i took off Win8 and installed Win7 that it would help. ??:cry::(:mad:

Again I will say get your money back and get a Gforce graphics unit since your on the fence on this and you really don't understand the ins and outs of drivers.

Yes you could format the HD and install W7, however since its still a "Radeon" based graphics you still will only have the last driver that Toshiba made for it, and having experienced HP, these manufactures ONLY make a new "updated" driver ONCE, or like when they went from W7 to W8, nothing else follows, and AMD will NOT support these cards, only a more expensive laptop with a true AMD Radeon card like a 7970, usually a gaming laptop, will be upgradeable, not some run of the mill "manufacturer machine. So in time even with a new hardware laptop with W7 you will still end up with an old driver at some point.

Anyway its your call and your decision, we just gave you the information. btw if you still have your old laptop, why not just use that for a bit longer if your wanting to go back to W7?

good luck

actually, i am not determined to buy a Toshiba. i am, however, determined to buy a computer that will allow me to use the "bells & whistles" of the Adobe Creative Cloud ... such as the 3D tools in Photoshop or even outside of 3D the Filters and such w/out needing to set the GPU in Ps to Draw in Basic Mode.

i donated my old laptop and so now i just have this pretty worthless Toshiba with poor support.

yes, it is true that i don't understand the ins and outs of Drivers or OS's or much of anything outside of the Creative Cloud Apps.

w/that said ... oh do i know when i am getting a "true graphics card" ?? you're saying if i buy one through say QVC that i will not get a true card? that i should save my pennies until i can buy a laptop directly through say Dell, or Acer or whatever ~ ??

if that's the case then i guess i will go ahead and send this Toshiba back and order the Dell w/the Nvidia GF GT card. & then start saving for a factory direct machine.

thanks for doing your best to help me understand. suppose i'll go find an article about drivers.

take care,
kara

Try to relax and take a breath, you don't need some super deluxe gaming machine, there are many off the shelf laptops that will do the job as is.

just make sure its at least 6 or better g of ram, and a decent I5 or I7 CPU. than look for a Gforce Video card, most likely a 630 or 650 or 655, all will do what you need.

Yes M stands for mobile.

The only reason I have this HP with a Radeon 7690M XT is because I got it cheap off an auction site, the rest of the hardware is top notch, but since video cards are part of a laptop motherboard, your stuck with it, (there are some upper MB that will allow a change but its not easy and not usually some off the shelf model) Its used mainly as a replacement for an old XP desktop, and since I know what I have and how to deal with it, its operational as its used for me. HP did at least come out with one driver update for W8, which is the only reason I kept it. I also know that manufactures like HP ONLY re do a driver once in a blue moon. That said, NO other purchase from this point on will ever have another AMD radeon product that I spend money on again.

There's nothing much else that I can say on this matter, you either get your money back while you still can or you deal with it as is. It could also just be the program your using, it may not be "comparable" with W8. You could look for an update to that program you seem to need, or try installing it using the W7 compatibility setting and see if that helps, you never know it might solve your problem. Also re check for any updated "manufacturer" video driver for your model unit. (btw) you could also try a W7 video driver for your unit from the manufacturer installed in W7 compatibility mode.

I can't think of anything else to tell you at this point, if no driver is available or none work, I'd get rid of the thing ASAP

good luck

Brink, you should probably remove the "AMD Catalyst OpenGL 4.3 Beta Driver" as full open GL 4.3 support has been added to the "13.8 Windows Beta Driver"

Hello HP Owners,

Here we go again... It seems we went through this exact same thing with the release of Windows 8 not all that along ago. I recently upgrade my system to Windows 8.1 Preview from the previous Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 prior to this latest upgrade. Who know that HP, in there supreme wisdom, would only support select few of their laptops model with switchable graphics beyond Windows 7.

That said... I missed the date cut-off for ongoing support under The Windows 8 platform by just a few months. I was told if you wanted your Switchable Graphics feature to work, "Re-install Windows 7." However, they not only changed the graphics configuration in the next generation models of my same pc, but they also continued to make pc's with the same ATI/Intel based configuration as well. Those laptops made after a certain date would receive support under the Windows 8 platform.
It took me some time, but I finally came across an acceptable fix for this issue. HP has released several updated driver packages that work with the ATI/Intel Switchable Graphics setup to-date. However, Windows 8 somehow only seems to recognize the Intel part of the driver package as current and automatically tries to overwrite the AMD driver and software portion of the package with a "NEWER" update.

The ability to switch between the two GPUs is lost, once Windows 8 update service installs two separate drivers and software packages to replace both the ATI/Intel package, which are specifically designed (Digitally Signed) to work in tandem through the Catalyst Control Center portion of the HP Switchable Graphics driver package.

HP released [sp58788] - Intel High Definition (HD) Graphics update to restore the Switchable graphics feature for those customers who bought their system with ATI/Intel based graphics after a certain date due to HP's intention to provide ongoing support for those customers.

This HP driver package (sp58788) works under both the previous Windows 8 platform and the current Windows 8.1 Preview (Code name: BLUE) platform.

You will need to completely remove your current Graphics drivers before re-installing the [sp58788] - Intel High Definition (HD) Graphics update.
1. Use the device manager to uninstall both the Intel and AMD graphics driver and software from your system, but do not restart your system immediately.
2. Run both the Driver Fusion and AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility to completely remove all associated backups of the ATI/Intel drivers and software.
I used both Driver Fusion by Treexy and AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility by AMD to completely remove all previous instances of their driver and software installations. You can download these removal tools from their makers websites.

3. Next, you will need to navigate to your system properties menu. You can do this by going to Settings charm and selecting PC Info. This will bring up your system's System window.
4. Once there, you'll need to select the Advanced System Settings option located on the left of the System window.
5. Doing this should bring you to the System Properties window. Here you will need to select the Hardware tab at the top of the window.
6.Under the Hardware tab of the System Properties window, you will need to select the Device Installation Settings button, in the middle of the window.
7. No, let me choose what to do. Never install driver software from Windows update. Uncheck the box that allows your systyem to automatically get drivers and software from your pc manufacturer.
8. Restart your system in order to save these changes.

Part II.
1. Reinstall the [sp58788] - Intel High Definition (HD) Graphics update and configure your switchable graphics in the Catalyst Control Center which now should be working correctly.
You may need to enable your Switchable Graphics feature in your system's Bios. You can do that by entering your System Bios Utility upon restart. Simply press F10 to enter the Bios setup on most HP DV6 Entertainment laptops. Once in the Bios setup, navigate to Device configuration Settings, then to Switchable Graphics, Select Dynamic, then F10 again to save and exit.
Your Switchable Graphics feature should now work correctly and windows should not be able to automatically update these drivers again, which usually results in the disabling of your AMD Graphics under Windows 8.1 Preview.
