Solved Win 8 AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ

I have a Lenovo laptop, and Lenovo hasn't released any drivers for Windows 8 yet. Right now I'm only able to use the Intel card. Is all this mostly for HP products?

I'm using a Lenovo Y470p, and I read through most of this thread, and downloaded the UnifL Catalyst for AMD+Intel (AMD Radeon 7690m HD and Intel Graphics 3000 HD). I now have the switchable graphics menu available, and it looks fine on the surface, but I'm still only using the Intel card, not the Radeon. Any help?

Also, device manager is reporting my card as a 7670, is that a problem too? Thanks.

@ily112

You need to enable switching via the Power menu in the Catalyst Control Center (CCC). You can access CCC via Right-click (on Desktop) -> Graphics Properties.

Well just to put in my last few words, That SP59580 works as well on W8 a the old W7 driver did for W7 for this weird setup. and I assume that this will be HP's one and only driver issued.

btw: have anyone tried to log on to Lehcat's site? I tried a couple days now using IE or Firefox and all I get is a popup box asking for a name and PW.

Wow looks like the noise level on this blog went from 90 to 0 lol.

I guess its due to many more finding W8 drivers, as in my case.

Anyway just wanted to post that leshcat's site is back up, and no password needed.

Hy man, yeah have it installed and actually almost looking like W7 :). I found a nice start button/menu program, I found a neat old windows games package that installs all the old MS games, I found a program to recover the gadgets too. I'm still looking for a program to bring back the clear aero look. I had a program like that once for XP.

I also moved up from the dark ages of dialup to DSL this weekend:)

As for that sp59850 it works great on this laptop, works as the old driver did on W7.

So yeah so far I have things working OK.

One thing I did experience the other day though was when I installed a bad program called change sound, it really hosed the registry couldn't do squat in Windows at all, but luckily I had Acronis 2010 installed and had made a image a couple days before, whew, so did my first full image restore lolol, but learned a lesson, and found that this Acronis 2010 works great in W8 :)

Hope the blog stays active, you never know :)

No, I'm living in Iran :( and Iran bought. Likely purchased from Dubai.

try this

here are your drivers for Windows 8 64bits

not working...

did u try uninstall all the drivers, and install then this ones?
another option is, do a new clean installataion of the Windows 8 and then install this drivers, the first one you have to install is the graphics one.

Ah, another 3rd-party modded driver!

Thanks, I will add it to the appropriate section on the first post.

Also, I believe the reason that you can have 2 different Driver Providers is because perhaps you are running x86 (32-bit) and not x64 (64-bit)? Windows x64 has driver-signing enforced by default, so you must have the same Provider for both drivers.

As an aside, I also noticed that Benchmark3D's AMD (official) Catalyst 12.10 WHQL downloads list an AMD Catalyst and an AMD Catalyst Mobility 12.10 download direct from AMD, although I can't find a page on AMD's Support Hub that talks about the Catalyst Mobility driver.

Time for some more testing...thanks again for the info!

hey, alphastar, did you get it to work?

HY man, hows your W8 working, mine is now OK, like W7 lol

Here is what I use, I used to use ZA, this COMODO is working fine, its still a new version and will have more updates but its working well on W8 for me. I have a few gripes about the GUI but so it goes. I liked the way the old version 5 GUI showed you what was connected and at what %.

hey, alphastar, did you get it to work?

Hey Divyanshu,

I did...and the first post is definitely overdue for an update (sorry all...it's coming soon, I promise).

Until then, the most up-to-date info (from me) right now is:

  1. The (technical,) Switchable Graphics explanation at post #382
  2. Post #383 (comparing the HP SoftPaq SP59147 and SP59850 driver versions vs. official Intel/AMD Catalyst beta driver versions)
  3. ...and post #389 (on choosing between SP59147, SP59850, and AMD Catalyst Beta) right after it.

Of course, some older AMD Switchable Graphics solutions require the AMD Catalyst Legacy (12.6) drivers for Windows 8, or 3rd-party options like Leshcat's UnifL (see post #385).

But essentially, if you have an HP, you should be looking at SP59147 or SP59580 (or other supported HP Win8 driver according to your model, see the first post for details), plus running the AMD Catalyst beta after reboot, to update to the latest AMD drivers.

FWIW: I am currently on HP SoftPaq SP59850 (Intel HD Graphics 9.17.10.2817) + AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta11 (AMD Radeon HD 9.10.8.0):
