Someones phone was connected to my network! Why and how?

Something come to my mind, the fact you see it on your network don't necessary means they have access to your stuff, Like as example, if this device as Bluetooth and your PC as Bluetooth , your PC can see it under certain condition .

Ok, this is strange guys. I live in The Netherlands, I have Windows 8 (RTM) running on two machines, and tonight I saw this same Samsung phone with the name "m0xx" in the list of devices in my network, although I don't own such a phone.
I did have trouble connecting to a server in my LAN, and that's why I looked in the list of machines in my network.
What is going on here?!?!?

Been reading these posts as well as chatting to other friends on Windows 8 and it seems a common theme here.

2 So far seem to crop up

m0xx - Samsung Galaxy S3
nasaki - Google Nexus 7 Tablet

I have a Netgear DGND3700v2 and don't own a phone that can connect to the network. Also the phones showing in network on Windows 8 do not actually have a physical IP address on mine and neither are any showing in my router.

I would be inclined to report it as a bug to Microsoft as it seems too much of a coincidence that many many users are getting this issue with the same devices showing up.
In fact I can turn my router off and also my PC Wireless connection and disconnect from the network completely and these phones still randomly appear.

Odd huh!

You are quite correct i have had nasaki appear from nowhere tonight and i cant find no ip address on the router for them.

I think they may very well be Ghosts. They certainly don't have any connectable properties or any usable information that would normally be present on a physically connected device to the network either via Bluetooth, Wireless or USB.

I would honestly be inclined to ignore it unless the device is connected in your router and the MAC address matches.

Same here (The Netherlands, ISP = Ziggo, modem = Ambit/Ubee => EVW320B). Until now I've seen three different mac addresses on my network with the name 'm0xx' (which don't belong to any of my Wi-Fi devices). They show up for a short period of time and disappear, to later show up again. As a non trusted device connected to your (private) network is very troubling, I made a wireshark log (on all my interfaces) and searched for one of these three addresses. Luckily enough I didn't find any of these addresses. Anyway, still worried... :(

I have asked for a call back from MS and also have left them an email so hopefully *Not holding breath* they will get back to me. There are also some critical and important updates due Tuesday 13th November but little as far as I can see are known about these and what they fix other than 'security vulnerabilities' and performance updates.

Understandable to be completely worried, not everyday you find random devices connected to your network whether physical or ghosts. The question is why and that can only really be answered by MS themselves or by someone who has managed to resolve the issue.

Just an update. Look out also for the 'Sony BRAVIA' under the display section of network. Definitely I think a bug here within the network detection of Windows 8.

For me it's not a option to disable my Wi-Fi nor to work without a internetconnection, can someone confirm that 'phones still randomly appear while disconnected from the network completely'?

Can you please post here the reply from MS asap after you got it, or have other info regarding this issue? This is becomming a inception for me ;)

Anyway, I will write an AutoIT script which will refesh my network every 5 seconds and will make a screendump after the refresh. I will try to run that script tonight while my computer is completely disconnected from my network and see if these 'phones' will still pop up???

Another thing i have noticed is the MAC add keeps changing from 5c:da:5b:2a:ca:11 to 88:30:8a:7b:0e:80 on the m0xx device.
