Authentic Windows 8 Pro won't activate

Hello! I am sincerely hoping that someone is able to assist me, because I am about ready to pull my hair out. I have Windows 8 Pro 64-bit installed on my pc, Upgraded from Windows 7 Professional. Both copies of Windows were legitimately purchased and activated. Now, however, Windows 8 is telling me that it is not activated. The only thing that I did on the pc is I installed and ran a program called System Mechanic, and soon after running it, Windows 8 began saying it was not activated. I did some googling and I attempted to do the whole "run->slui 3" bit but it gave me the error message: "error 0x80070424. The specified service does not exist as an installed service." Not really sure if this information is enough to diagnose the problem, but any and all advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time!

You should never install those kind of software and anything free from C-Net, since I suspect you have done so in your previous Windows 7 Install, flush me everything, re install Windows 7 and Upgrade to 8 again, if you have problem at activation, just call MS,. this is what I like from Metro app, it will avoid those kind of C-Net free crap stuff .

I agree with "area 66" as far as using those types of programs. They can do more harm than good if one doesn't know how to setup the software to use it. Especially if the registry is involved.

That being said you can repair windows 8 from with in the pc settings by moving the mouse to bottom right corner and clicking that cog, click change Pc settings, click general tab and scroll down and you'll see 3 options: refresh, remove and advanced. I would go with remove and start fresh with 8.

I will try everything suggested by you guys, although I didn't get System Mechanic from C-Net.... My fiancée thought it would be a useful utility to have heh. Guess he was wrong. At any rate thanks for the advice. :)

Can you fill me in on this Metro app please? I'm still learning the ins and outs of 8. And I'll let you all know how the reinstall/upgrade/possibly calling MS goes. :)
