Uh Oh, Microsoft's Surface Tablet Is Getting Some Awful Reviews

Dumb question - is it possible to attach a mouse to Surface and operate with it.

I would think yes! Assuming it has a standard sized USB port. I would think it has Bluetooth too. I'm to lazy to look up the specs right now. Drivers might be a pain on the RT but I would hope it has basic mouse support built in to its driver base. If you have a gaming mouse with lots of extra buttons they might not all work.

I doubt it's that bad. But can Surface or any of the windows 8 tablets use legacy software?

Yes, the Surface Pro is a tablet\ultrabook hybrid and can run any software. All non RT tablets running Windows 8 can run all software.

Also Macs seem to be the computer to use in all things that are in media and such. Creative working people usually don't use pcs. There are exceptions but most people use a mac professionally. PCs are more for finance and other types of work that usually isn't in the creative field. Maybe windows at some point can change this.

Yea, back in the old days when PCs were slow boxes that could only run Lotus 1-2-3 and Wordperfect. PC's are more than capable holding their own against Macs when it comes to creative work.

Dumb question - is it possible to attach a mouse to Surface and operate with it.

Yes, both USB and Bluetooth.

Sinofsky: Surface 'best tablet, best laptop' he's ever used ? The Register

"It's not just a tablet. It's actually the best tablet that I've ever used," he said. "It's also not just a laptop, but it's the best laptop that I've ever used as well." Sinofsky is never one to mince his words.

AnandTech - Microsoft Surface Review

The function keys are still there however, just not labeled. To access them just hit alt + fn and then count the keys to the right of the escape key. For example, F4 is the fourth function key over, which on Touch Cover is the play/pause key.

 :roflmao:

(Now cue the responses that no one uses the function keys on a PC anyway.) It wasn't enough that Microsoft lost their collective mind and introduced a host of hidden hotspots to confound Windows users, their "tablet that is also the best laptop in the whole universe" has hidden keys you have to count to locate. I think Tim Cook was too kind comparing this thing to a combination toaster/refrigerator or floating/flying car; I think it's more like the thing that resulted from the fusion of Brundlefly with the pod, only its buyers are going to be the ones meekly asking to be put out of their misery.

Zune.

Sinofsky ...

Sinofsky doesn't even know how to use the old "Start Menu".
The other day, R0bR kindly provided a link to the blog post where this is made clear.

Since Sinofsky is one of the "clowns" responsible for Metro, so we can hardly expect him to say anything different.

Opps I meant is the surface a RT tablet. I think it's confusing to have RT and non-RT I hope they carefully label this. Sorry for the confusion, I'm not saying PCs can't hold their own against Macs for creative work. I use a PC for some of my work. I'm saying creative professionals use Macs. This has been the standard for the creative industry. Also there are a few great industry software that is available only on macs. There are some reasons why some software are also easier to use on macs(although not all the time). Windows based PCs and Macs both have their pros and cons but the creative industry has always been Mac-based.

I don't know, you could argue that the ipad has a status symbol appeal to it, I call BS on that. People buy into apple not for the status symbol really, it's about looking cool.

Finished watching Microsoft's release event in New York, have to say, the ipad isn't looking too cool anymore. A smart cover for the ipad, more like meh! cover! So much OCD was put into this Windows tablet PC, it's ridiculous.

A better analogy, it's like taking an ipad and putting it next to an android tablet. The ipad is better and looks nicer than the android tablet. Except, in this situation, the android tablet is the ipad, the ipad is the Surface.

I figure you were meaning the status symbol as more of being in the trend an in with things, like everyone else.

Yeah, that too. Buying an Apple product is trendy....it's a status symbol. Nobody wants to be caught dead carrying a Zune, but an iPod is a different story. All the cool kids have iPods.
