display windows side by side

I have a question. But after I ask it I hope that someone does not respond by saying something like, "Well you dumb a**, that's what we've been trying to tell you." In Windows 7, I was taking a tutorial which made it necessary to have two and sometimes three windows open and displayed side by side. Maybe it wasn't necessary, but it make it much easier to do. I can't do that in Win 8. Is it because I'm not doing something right, or is it because it can't be done.

If you need any number of multi concurrent windows open logically, you can right click on the taskbar and select to cascade windows or uncascade windows or SHOW windows side by side or stacked.

Can you please tell us what exactly you are doing to achieve your goal? Then only we can say whether or not you aren't doing something right.

I don't know how you did it in Windows 7 but the Snap feature works in Win 7 and Win 8.

I still can't get it done and I am doing it the same as in Win7 where it works great. I am guessing (and it's only a guess) that it has something to do with the fact that I have it installed in a virtual machine. I can have three tabs open and then right click on the task bar and select (show side by side or show stacked) just as I do it in Win7. But when I click on any of the options, nothing happens.

I couldn't use the Aero snap with IE but when I open FF and IE the snap works.

On the issue of virtualization, I have no experience. Someone else might be helpful. I guess many find virtualization useful, my preference is one OS at a time. No dual booting or other scenarios. Someone else was asking for a loading sequence suggestion for a 5 boot scenario, XP - Vista - 7 - Ubuntu - 8 > yikes. Anyway, best of luck, someone else will chime in any second now.

I agree, mdmd. When Oct. 26 rolls around, I'll have it as a stand alone. I've had other issues with it that had to do with the virtual machine. So, I'm not going to worry about it. I'll see what happens when I install 8 on here by itself. Thanks to everyone for your feed back.
