Customer installed Win 8. He knows how to hide/ unhide folders and files. For some reason, that he wont go into, thats not good enough. To easy to toggle back and forth he says . He wants to hide a folder--i have read the win7 forums,i dont see it as being possible at the level he wants it. He says he wants it totally hidden, but still, by making some changes, be able to unhide it when he needs to and then re-hide it.

ANy idea's:think:

Win8 has no capabilities in this area beyond the 7 capabilities. If it's not possible in 7, it's not possible in 8 either. You will probably have to install some sort of rootkit driver to get this behavior.

If you're interested, truecrypt does a good job of hiding things.

Maybe you should suggest that he uses a USB stick to store the files he wants hidden. Then he controls access to it exclusively.

Excellent suggestion. I agree. With the price of USB sticks now, that would be the way to go. A lot less work than setting up an encrypted file space. Be careful to use the Operating System "safe to remove" feature or else yanking out a flash drive can ruin it. I lost a 64GB drive by accidentally pulling it out without doing a safe removal.

If you need more space, I like the Western Digital "my passport" usb external drive (320GB), does not require a power adapter (usb plug in only), and it costs less than some smaller flash drives. It's about 3 inches by 2.5 inches. It also requires "safe to remove" due to the fact that it is powered thru the usb connector and has to be disconnected by using "safe to remove"

I offered both suggestions, thanks,i think hes going with the usb stick idea because he said a encrpyted folder, such by the software MDMD had suggested might raise some flags. I think both were great suggestions, thanks.
