F8 to reboot into safe mode

I've discovered that Win 8 dumped the F8 key on reboot to enter safe mode, now it seems that you have to go through a convoluted process within Win 8 to set up boot into safe mode or alternatively through "msconfig".
What if you can't boot into Win 8, wasn't that one of the uses of safe mode?
Win 8 looks quite messed up to me and more complicated to use, maybe a little faster to reboot and more flashy, but apart from that not very convincing.
Probably I'm reverting to good old Win 7.
    Any opinions?

If you can't boot, you will need to use a win8 install DVD or USB drive to boot, then repair your win8 installation. Alternatively, you can enable the legacy bootloader using bcdedit, which should reenable the F8 shortcut.

I agree 100%, Redmond is out for market dominance not functionality by overwhelming it's presence on phones, tablets, laptops, desktops etc.

No. You can still boot into safe mode, but it is a little more involved.

Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in

You don't have to boot into Windows 8 first, you press shift-f8 on boot to enter recovery mode.

Also, if Windows 8 fails to boot more than once, it will automatically enter recovery (safe) mode as long as the disk it's stored on is still bootable. If you must boot into safe mode from a working OS, you can use the aforementioned shift+F8 combination or the Advanced Settings options in PC Settings (under General).

You don't actually have to mash F8 while holding shift, but some hardware boots so fast that getting it right is a lot harder .

It does work. You're not doing it right. Remember SHIFT-F8, not just F8 and you have to do it at the right time, and if you aren't quick enough you miss the window.

    Hello,

You might also consider doing the tutorial below to add Safe Mode to your boot menu to make it easy to select and boot into if neeeded.

Safe Mode in WDP in General Support
For those wondering about safe mode in WDP, there are 2 ways to get into it. 1) For safe mode on next boot (or till you turn it off manually), use the regular msconfig way. In msconfig, click boot tab, check "safe boot" and radio button "minimal". Hit OK. You can restart straight away or later,...
