Hello,
I hate to ask a question someone else has asked, but I searched and could not find the answer.

Does anyone know if we will have to uninstall Windows 8 Consumer preview before installing the release of Windows 8? I am looking forward to the final release & the $15.00 deal is great, but I'm not sure if I will have to go through the task of uninstalling the preview or if the final release will remove it for me

I ask because I'm trying to sale my old Acer W500 tablet & I needed to Windows 7 back on it to sell. It was a very difficult task to remove Windows 8. I had to go through a weird process to get rid of 8.

Thanks for you help

The $15 deal is ONLY if you buy a new computer with Windows 7 installed. Then you get an upgrade to Windows 8 for $15.
MS will be offering a $39.99 upgrade for older computers that are running XP, Vista, Windows 7. If you upgrade one of these to Windows 8 RP then you can again upgrade to Windows 8 RTM but it will wipe the old version during install and only save personal files.
You must have one of these older versions on your computer to do the upgrade.

You won't need to reinstall windows 7. You just need to have the valid windows 7 license and proof of purchase, etc. You can do a clean install.

Wrong!!
MS has said you need a previous version installed on your PC at time of upgrade.

Ah I have a question about that. If I decide to do a clean install, would it force me to format the partition with the license, or can I install it on a new partition (dual boot)?

No one knows that answer yet. It does say that you are not allowed to continue using the old license you used to OK the upgrade, but that is a legal thing and don't know if MS will kill the old key or is there a feature in the upgrade process to stop it.. Until someone gets an upgrade copy and tries it we won't know for sure.
