For Desktop, you might need a third party app to do so. I'm not too sure if that is available. As for All Apps, take advantage of the Start Screen. Pin a folder, pin an app, pin a hard drive, or pin a Desktop app onto the Start Screen and arrange and enjoy!

"Classic menu", has an option to go to the desktop. You can also use this "hack" which takes you to the desktop,

WinAero: Skip Metro Suite (Skip Metro suite)

but you will then need to download and install a start menu, if that is what you are seeking.

Both of these work in the RTM.

But I would recommend the previous suggestion to try and organise and use the Metro

Not really. If you eliminate the stuff you don't use too often, and organise the columns, it becomes a graphical menu.

It started early in the Windows 8 discussions on different forums, and has since been oft repeated (hackneyed). But take it easy on new members

You know what, I don't have an issue with people not liking it. It's just the constant misinformation that's starting to drive me nuts.

Anyway, to answer the OP, one can always place the Desktop tile as the first tile. That way, all you have to do is press "enter" when you log on to the computer, and you will be taken to the desktop.

I have used desktop for many years and am used to it. I am sure the tiles thing is better, but I want my desktop. Instead of having the tiles come up and clicking on the desktop, how can I make it just go to the desktop and avoid the tiles. I found something in setup about defaulting to desktop,...

I see various articles saying many different things but can someone direct me to the "horses mouth" where officials from MicroSoft confirm that the option to default boot direct to the desktop is in fact a reality in Windows 8.1? Thanks!

I personally enjoy the Windows 8 Start Menu and I was wondering whether I could directly go to Apps when I press the Windows key instead of going to the Start Menu first, then right clicking, and then going to All Apps. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
I would also like to delete metro in it's entirety or at least as much as possible. Also, I have a dual monitor setup. On is my flatscreen tv, which is hooked up to the computer for home theater. I seem to have a duplicate task bar and icons on the tv, which I most certainly did not have on 7. ...
